MINUTES OF THE TOWN OF NEWBOLD LAKES COMMITTEE FOR TUESDAY, May 15, 2012 Rt.

47 and Apperson Drive, Rhinelander, WI 54501 1. Chairperson Scott Eshelman called the meeting to order at 5:30 pm.

2. In attendance: Paul Kuhn, Connie Muckelberg, J.R. Bartelt, Bill Jaeger. 3. The minutes of April 17, 2012 were approved as corrected. 4. The member lake associations reported as follows: a. Lake Mildred/Clear LakeOn April 20th Onterra presented the results of the lake management survey to the planning committee. The Board decided to not pay for Living on the Edge so it wont be included in their education packet. Connie brought along copies of the Association newsletter and calendar and a tumbler they offer as a fundraiser. The calendar uses pictures from Lake Mildred that are very high quality. Lake Mildred is participating with a new program called Kids Dont Float. Child sized personal flotation devices will be available for free loan at the boat landing. The users are expected to return them to the kiosk when leaving the lake. A news release on the program is can be seen at http://dnr.wi.gov/news/DNRNews_Article_Lookup.asp?id=2065 . Connie also mentioned the Lake Mildred website at www.lakemildred.com/ . b. Flannery/Velvet LakeThe Education Packets are being assembled. The Association annual meeting is set for June 20th. c. Two Sisters LakeA review of the DNRs online lake data system found Two Sisters Lake listed in the mesotrophic category. A closer look found that a phosphorus sample collected near the lake bottom was used to calculate the rating. The bottom water sample had 10 times more phosphorus than near-surface readings and is not appropriate to use as a water quality indicator. The error was corrected and Two Sisters is again in the oligotrophic water quality category. 5. Discussion regarding the Education Packets was continued. Scott will order Living on the Edge. Scott is also continuing work on the Town history. It is up to 15 pages and the cost of printing is a concern. Distribution on a CD or DVD may be a cost effective alternative. 6. The Rapid Response Pamphlet is still being drafted. Distribution to all Newbold property owners with tax bills will require 3500 copies which causes concern for printing cost. The possibility of obtaining a grant for printing was discussed. 7. Bill reported that the Oneida County Lakes and Rivers Association is having their annual meeting at Nicolet College on June 15. Keynote speaker, Dr. Ben Beardmore, will discuss the Impacts of Lake Protection Efforts on Property Values as well as how to establish, train and implement aquatic invasive species early detection and monitoring teams for lakes. OCLARA is looking for two new volunteer board members and it would be good to have more lake associations involved with the organization. 8. On a motion by Paul Kuhn and a second by Connie Muckelberg the meeting was adjourned at 6:47 pm. The next meeting will be on June 19, 2012 at 5:30 pm. Respectfully submitted,
