Letter from the Executive Director

Welcome to our Fall Catalog of Classes and Events!
Autumn always feels like a new beginning. No matter how many years go by, that first fiery maple leaf descending to the earth transports me to my youth. The slightly acrid smell of new pencils and textbooks, thoughts of Friday football games, and all of the exciting things that the new school year may hold never fails to stir nostalgia in me. It is the same here at Valley Art Center except instead of #2 lead pencils, ours arrive in a delicious array of colors, the books are cleverly altered, and the sport is hurdling through our catalog to arrive at the precise offering to excite your senses and move you forward on your creative path. Welcome to our Fall 2012 Catalog! We have for your artistic pleasure, classes in drawing, painting, ceramics, jewelry-making, beading, photography, pastels, life drawing, colored pencils, enameling, printing, etc. for both adults and children. Our gallery exhibits this fall will be: By Invitation Only: Artful Entertaining, and our ever popular 41st Annual Juried Art Exhibit. Join us. . . you will be so glad you did!

Parking and Drop Off at the Valley Art Center

The East entrance (adjacent to our surface parking lot) is a dedicated barrier-free entrance for those with mobility issues only. Please use the buzzer to alert staff you would like entrance through that door. All others are to use the Front door. General parking is available in the lot behind the Center, accessible via the driveways at 139 and 147 Bell St. You may park in any of the spaces in this lot at any time. Limited parking is also available in our upper parking lot. We ask you to please save the spaces in this lot for those who require barrier-free accessibility to upper level classrooms. We only have two designated handicap spaces in this lot so especially on busy days we need to reserve these spots for students who must park closer to the building. Please also come into the Center and check in with the instructor or the front desk when dropping off and picking up minors.

What Is Your Colour Story? Jewelry Workshop

Kim Mettee
2698 Sat., Oct. 27 12 - 5 pm Room 4 $75 Adults, Teens
Each of us has a story to tell. We have all collected fragments over time... elements that reflect who we are as individuals. And when we take the time to really SEE what weve gathered, a colourful story begins to unfold. Many, like myself are scavengers and enjoy spending much of our waking hours searching and gathering interesting pretty junk as I like to refer to my finds. Others have quit the habit altogether and are slowly beginning to divest themselves of their treasures. But alas...what to do with all the stuff? How about funneling your plentiful collections into one-of-a-kind jewelry. This is the perfect opportunity for you to bring potentially incompatible raw materials together to create harmony. Colour is the conduit which leads design in a direction that is cohesive and appealing. You too, can feel inspired by converting excess into reusable enjoyment. Kim Mettee, a local jeweler whos beautiful creations are often reminiscent of wearable art and whom also teaches The Art of Beaded Jewelry Design to adult and youth students, will guide you in utilizing composition, colour, texture and pattern while encouraging the intuitive side of your brain to inspire the design process. Whether you are an experienced beader/ jeweler or a complete novice, Kim invites you to come alone or bring a friend and spend a stress-free afternoon creating something special that expresses your personal aesthetic. Plan to bring any tools or beading/jewelry supplies you may have, including of course your plethora of colourful treasures. The more you bring, the greater the possibilities. Kim will have extra tools and supplies on hand to assist wherever necessary. Additional beads, stringing materials, wire, fasteners etc, will be available for purchase. Remember...minds only function when open. As an addendum, Kim would like to invite you to peruse her Colour Stories photo book via Shutterfly. You can find access via www.kimmetteedesigns.com. If you have any additional questions or concerns, feel free to contact Kim directly via telephone 216-906-0526 or email: kim@kimmetteedesigns. com.

tional kits and supplies, i.e beads, nylon coated wire, fasteners and crimps, will be available for purchase. Each kit is one-of-a-kind. Wonderful examples of completed kits will be on hand to help motivate and get the creative juices flowing. If you have any additional questions or concerns, feel free to contact Kim directly via telephone 440-247-0670 or email: kim@ kimmetteedesigns.com.
