NC Beam Saw A piece of woodworking machinery that is programmed by the operator to cut flat panel sheets into component

sizes. The program controls all the work sequences of the machine. A tradesperson required to operate such a machine should be able to install tooling, prepare simple and complex cutting programs and safely operate the equipment. These machines are very fast, versatile and allow the manufacturer a range of cutting options in one piece of equipment. CNC Router A Computer Numerical Controlled woodworking machine that is programmed by the operator. The program controls all the work sequences of the machine. A tradesperson required to operate this machine should be able to apply tooling data, prepare programs to run simple and complex tool paths and safely operate the equipment. The CNC Router is very fast, versatile and accurate. The machine allows the manufacturer a range of machining options in one piece of equipment. CNC Machine Centre A woodworking machine that is programmed by the operator. The program controls all the work sequences of the machine. A tradesperson required to operate this machine should be able to apply tooling

data, prepare simple and complex boring and routing programs and safely operate the equipment. The CNC Machine Centre is very fast, versatile and allows the manufacturer a range of machining options in one piece of equipment. Panel Saw A high production machine used to cut large sheets into smaller components. SOLID TIMBER Surface Planer (Buzzer) The main function of a surface planer is to prepare a face and face edge on material. The face is the widest surface which is planed straight along its length, flat and free of wind (twist in the material length. The face edge is the smaller surface and is planed square (at 90) to the face. Thicknesser (Panel Planer) The primary function of the panel planer is to reduce timber to a required width or thickness parallel to a planed face and edge. Panel planers may be divided into two main types according to their designed function:

Single cutter block (planes one surface of the material). Multi-cutter block (planes multiple surfaces of the material).

Rip Saw

The primary function of a ripsaw is to rip timber to a given size along its length. This involves:

cutting to width - known as "Flat Cutting" cutting to thickness - known as "Deep Cutting" angle cutting in certain circumstances.

Dimension Saw A type of cross cut saw. Used for cutting material to length and across the grain of solid timber. Docking or Radial arm saw The primary function of a radial arm saw is to square cut solid timber to a given length (crosscutting). However the design of the machine also allows for straight ripping, bevel ripping, trenching, mitre and bevel cutting and compound cutting. Spindle Moulder (Shaper) A machine used to shape, size or mould components of assorted materials for the furniture industry. The spindle moulder consists of a cast iron base supporting a variable speed pulley system connected to an electric motor which drives a vertical shaft. Material may be fed past the revolving cutters by hand or by a power feed unit.
