Get Ready for the Summer Reading Challenge 2012

Come and take part in the Story Lab. An incentive to encourage children (0 11 years) to read over the summer holidays. Read six books over the summer holidays and be entered into a competition to win an iPod Shuffle or the grand prize laptop. Children aged 5 years and under could win Early Learning gift vouchers. North London Waste Authoritys Waste advisers will highlight the environmental and economic problems associated with food waste. In addition, residents and community groups in North London will be provided with advice and practical solutions to help save money and reduce waste. The food waste advisors will also share their best tips and pass on tools to help people make the most of their food and highlight how throwing away food can easily be avoided.

As well as cutting back overgrown snowberry that is dominating areas alongside the main cobbled track. A Green Hub on Green Lanes. Historic Rivers at Railway Fields Thursday 23 August, 10.30am 2.30pm Meet: Railway Fields Hut, opposite Harringay/Green Lanes train station, Green Lanes N4 Cutting back vegetation to create a new viewing area of the New River, this historic 17th Century artificial waterway used to provide Londoners with fresh drinking water. Alongside, cutting back overgrown snowberry that is dominating areas along the main cobbled track. A green gem on Green Lanes. Hidden Railways at Palace Gates Tuesday 28 August, 10am 3pm Meet: Palace Gates entrance on Park Avenue (concrete steps, near corner of Wolseley Road), Wood Green N22 Continuing the development of this green space as an educational nature area for St. Pauls Primary School. Tasks along this disused railway line that is currently closed to the public, will include installing stag beetle habitats, clearing invasive Norwegian maple saplings and laurel, and improving footpaths. A great opportunity to discover a hidden railway track that used to link up Alexandra Palace to Noel Park and Wood Green.
