Northeast Motorcycle and Ha Long Bay (IET - VN 6.19)

Highlight: Hanoi - Na Khan - Ba Be - Quang Hoa - Na Tau - Lang Son - Hai Phong - Cruising on bay - Cat Ba. Boating Hanoi Duration: 9 days / 8 nights Tour route: Hanoi, Lang Son, Hai Phong, Bac Kan Transportation type: Boat, Motorcycle Tour code: IET - VN 6.19 Day 1: Hanoi - Na Khan. ~180 km, ~8 h. Quite a long drive but easy (early departure is better) from Hanoi to Na Khan 180 km. The road is sealed all the way until Bac Kan and the last part from Bac Kan to Na Khan is wild and little bumpy. Na Khan is a Tay village, lost in the middle of the primitive forest. Mr. Lo, the chef of the village will welcome us in his house. Day 2: Na Khan - Ba Be. ~50 km, ~2 h. Short drive from Na Khan to Ba Be on bumpy road. Lunch at our captain's house (Mr. Dang, we call him Zi Dang). Easy boating on the lake and river. Go to market (if it is the day you arrive). Stop at waterfall, beautiful swimOng pirate, the chef of Dau Dang waterfall where we enjoy dinner. Down the waterfall, we could visit the village and a small school (only few pupils during the summer). We propose to stay in the stilt house of forest guards. Day 3: Ba Be - Quang Hoa. ~170 km, ~7 h. Cross Ba Be lake to come back to our captain's house. Beautiful ride up to Cao Bang province. Few passes from where you can dominate the area. The road is easy but many curves. We can stop a lot. All together, stop for drinks and food it should be an 8-hour journey. Then ride 1 more hour to reach the beautiful village of Quang Hoa, in the middle of a mountain cirque. This is the territory of Nung An people. Spend the night in our friend's house. Day 4: Quang Hoa - Na Tau - Quang Hoa. ~30 km, ~1 h. Na Tau is a completely unknown area that we propose to discover it by raft and motorbike. Rivers and waterfalls everywhere are extremely beautiful and wild. It is only 15 km from Quang Hoa. Day 5: Quang Hoa - Ban Gioc - Quang Hoa. ~100 km, ~3 h. Having obtained permission from the border police, we make our way through spectacular scenery to Vietnam's most impressive waterfalls. where the 50 m high falls hit the river. Day 6: Quang Hoa - Lang Son (or Mau Son). ~160 km, ~7 h. We drive from Quang Hoa by following the historic colonial route CR4 till the frontier town Lang Son. At choices: - Night in Lang Son, a chinese frontier town. - After lunch stop at Lang Son, we continue driving up to Mau Son mount (1541m) where we spend the night and from where we can dominate all area including the China, right near. Sleep in a hotel, called french climatic station, recently restorated. Day 7: Lang Son (or Mau Son) - Hai Phong. ~200 km, ~8 h. In the morning, possibility to take a short walk in meeting the red Dzao group (about 3 hours walking). Or start directly to the coast to arrive early into Hai Phong and spend the night on the sea beach. The roard just down hill and bumping on some tracks. Wild moutain in morning and bathing site in the evening. Night at hotel. Day 8: Hai Phong - Cruising on bay - Cat Ba. Boating. Arriving at the boat landing, a private "Jonque" is waiting to bring us to cruising onto the labyrinth of mythic bay of Ha Long. Following reputation, we can visite these vocanic caves, generally the cave of Thien Cung, wander around to meeting with floating villages of fishemen or promenade into a wild creek of the bay. Night on boat. Day 9: Cat Ba - Hai Phong - Hanoi. ~120 km, ~3 h. After the breafast we dirige the way to Cat Ba island. Preview arriving at 9 AM. Then we enjoy a short balad on this island before getting lunch. At 15h, we take a high speed ferry to Hai Phong where we reoccupy our vehicles to ride back to Hanoi, arrive around 18h.
