This has gone in.

The pleasure you get from driving a BMW is the result of ne engineering always setting the benchmark because it is based on much more than engine power. This is the tradition behind BMW EfcientDynamics. It includes the visionary Hydrogen engine, already used in a number of completely emission-free BMW 7 Series saloons. Also going into production soon is the BMW ActiveHybrid an intelligent, demand-oriented combination of internal combustion engine and electric motor. And every BMW already includes the multi-award-winning BMW EfcientDynamics technology package as standard that boosts dynamics even further whilst simultaneously reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. High Precision Injection In this cutting-edge generation of petrol direct injection, the Piezo injectors are positioned very close to the spark plugs. They inject the fuel at high pressure and with extreme precision. The injectors central positioning means only part of the combustion chamber needs to be lled with an ignitable petrol-air mixture. This enables ef cient, lean engine operation, especially in the heavily used part-throttle range. Auto Start/Stop function BMW four-cylinder engines with 6-speed manual transmission automatically shut down when the vehicle is stationary, for example at a red light or in a jam, when the driver activates the clutch and switches to neutral. The engine restarts as soon as the clutch is activated again. This innovation signicantly reduces fuel consumption, especially in city trafc. Optimum Shift Indicator Timely gear shifts are one of the most effective and easiest ways to save fuel. This is where the Optimum Shift Indicator in conjunction with 6-speed manual transmission comes in. It shows the driver what gear to use in order to save fuel.

And this is what comes out.

Sports automatic transmission with double clutch This transmission changes gears with lightning speed and without any power gap. In automatic mode, fuel consumption is reduced considerably, because the transmission quickly and precisely selects the appropriate gear for any situation.

Electric Power Steering Unlike conventional, hydraulic steering systems, electrical steering only uses energy during actual steering. When the steering wheel position is constant for example at high speed along the motorway the electric motor is inactive. Tyres with reduced rolling-resistance While driving, tyres are constantly changing shape. This uses up energy and thus fuel. Tyres with reduced rolling-resistance have an improved design and use special materials for their road treads and side walls, thus reducing deformation.

Brake Energy Regeneration To supply a battery with electrical energy, the generator (alternator) is permanently driven using engine power, which demands additional fuel consumption. Brake Energy Regeneration means the generator usually only generates electricity when the driver either takes the foot off the accelerator or brakes previously unused kinetic energy is transformed in coasting mode into electrical energy before being fed into the battery. In this way, electricity is generated while coasting, without consuming fuel.

BMW already offers 24 models with CO2 emissions of 140 g/km and signicantly less. But thats just for starters. Were carrying on our research with EfcientDynamics in the quest to bring you more driving pleasure and less emissions.

s Xenon Headlights for high and low beam, including four light rings used as daytime running lights and automatic headlight range control, provide much better illumination of the road ahead at night or in poor visibility. o Adaptive Headlights with variable light distribution and turning light illuminate bends as soon as the driver steers into them. The turning light is used in tight corners, at speeds up to 65 km/h and when indicating. It is automatically activated if the automatic driving lights control is switched on.

s Headlight washing system ensures unimpaired illumination in all weather conditions. If the windscreen wipers are activated while the headlights are on, the headlamp lenses are also automatically cleaned.

s Ornamental front kidney grille with specially designed surround and kidney grille slats in chrome. On 320i and 320d the kidney grille slats are in black.

Rain sensor with automatic driving lights control: once activated, the rain sensor will automatically switch on the windscreen wipers when it begins to rain, adjusting the wiper frequency in line with rainfall intensity. The integrated automatic driving lights control will switch on the low beam automatically at dusk and in tunnels.

o High-beam assistant supports the driver by automatically switching between high and low beam when trafc is approaching or enters the lane ahead. When street illumination becomes adequate, headlights are automatically dimmed.

o Trailer tow hitch including trailer stability control, with electric unlocking via a button in the luggage compartment. If the trailer hitch is not needed, it can be folded away manually.

o M leather steering wheel: easier steering with a wider steering wheel rim. With integrated multifunction buttons, allowing control of the radio, CD drive and telephone (if installed) while driving.

s Start/Stop button for starting the engine. After inserting your ignition key, you can start and stop the engine by pressing this button.

o Cruise Control with braking function (not available on 320i and 320d) stores, displays and maintains any selected speed above approx. 30 km/h. After accelerating, the car automatically returns to the previously stored speed. Braking cancels the settings.

o Active Cruise Control can be programmed to maintain a set speed when the lane ahead is clear, or to reduce speed to keep a safe distance between you and a slower car in front, automatically maintaining that distance until the radar sensors detect that the lane is clear. In addition, the braking function ensures that the desired speed is not surpassed even when driving downhill (not for 320i and 320d).

s On-board computer provides information on average speed, average fuel consumption, current fuel consumption and range.

o Navigation system Professional*, including DVD drive, iDrive Controller with direct menu control buttons, eight functional bookmarks, integrated hard disc for audio files and navigation data, map display with birds eye view and high-resolution 8.8" monitor.

o Park Distance Control (PDC)1, front and rear or rear only, facilitates parking and manoeuvring in tight spaces. A warning signal sounds as the car approaches an obstacle. In combination with the navigation system, visual warnings are also shown on the display screen (see image).

o Auxiliary heating with remote control1 (shown here in combination with Navigation system Professional*) ideal in winter and on cold days. When you get into your car, the windows are already free of ice and the interior is cosy and warm.

s Air conditioning system, incl. microfilter and air recirculation switch, ensures comfortable climatic conditions in the vehicle interior at any time of year, with manual adjustment of air volume and distribution.

o Automatic Air Conditioning, with microfilter, automatic air recirculation (AAR), solar and fogging sensor, rapidly establishes and maintains the desired temperature in the cabin. With individual front temperature control for left and right sides, temperaturecontrolled storage compartment in centre console, and rear cabin ventilation and air conditioning.

s Radio BMW Business CD, four-channel amplifier, aerial diversity, scan function, CD drive, MP3 decoder, automatic volume control, five loudspeakers: four treble speakers plus a central bass under the drivers seats.

o Radio BMW Professional, same features as BMW Business CD, plus two-line display for expanded representation of telephone numbers, names and audio/MP3 titles. o DAB tuner, only in conjunction with radio BMW Professional, Navigation system Business or Professional*.

o HiFi system Professional LOGIC7, with a total of 13 loudspeakers and a switchable surround function creating a luxurious soundscape within the cabin environment. o BMW Individual High-End Audio System, featuring powerful speakers with exclusive neodymium magnet drivers, brings the listening experience of a live concert into your car. Volume and equalization are adjusted automatically, in line with vehicle speed (available for the six-cylinder models).

s AUX-IN port to allow connection of an external audio source, such as an MP3 player. USB/audio interface for USB stick or MP3 player, upgradeable to support connection of a mobile phone music player. Titles shown on the Control Display (only with navigation system*). o 6-speed automatic transmission Steptronic. The gearshift mechanism enables very fast, immaculate gear changes for truly dynamic performance (standard on 335d).

o Sports automatic transmission with double clutch with gearshift paddles on the steering wheel for exceptionally fast gear changes without power loss, ensuring top dynamic performance and optimised fuel consumption (available for 335i).

o Sports leather steering wheel with gearshift paddles for even sportier gear changes (only available for the six-cylinder models with automatic transmission Steptronic).

o Seat heating (shown here in conjunction with air conditioning) for driver and front passenger seat (three settings). The seat surface, sides and backrest are heatable and provide a comfortable level of warmth soon after the car sets off.

s The electric seat belt handover for the driver and front passenger facilitates reaching and tting the seatbelt after getting into the car, regardless of the seat position and angle of the backrest. The seat occupation detector on the passenger side only activates the belt handover arm if the seat is occupied.

o M sports package: With this special aerodynamics package the BMW has a harmonious, smoothly contoured appearance. Two kinds of BMW light-alloy wheels are available to complement this presentation. The finely tuned M sports chassis, chromeplated exhaust pipes and high-gloss Shadow Line lend the finishing touches. Inside meanwhile, sports seats in an exclusive cloth/ Alcantara combination, an M leather steering wheel, Aluminium Glacier Silver interior trim and an Anthracite roofliner ensure a dynamic effect. This equipment package is rounded off with M door sill finishers, the M footrest and a shortened gear lever (only in combination with manual transmission). The exterior colour Le Mans Blue metallic is available exclusively in conjunction with this package.
