ABSTRACT

The present research is focused to assess the influence of the Emotional Intelligence Program application in students Social Skills, who belongs to the primary school level Classroom B of Albert Einstein Education Institute Independencia district Huaraz.

It was a quantitative-explicative research, because it consisted in survey data compilation, statistical analysis and hypothesis results testing.

The stated hypothesis was that an emotional intelligence program has a significant influence in students social skills. In this particular case the dependent variable was The Emotional Intelligence Program and the independent variable The students Social Skills.

The research had a grouping design that consisted in selecting two samples from a universe of 141 students from the primary school level of Albert Einstein Education Institute. The chosen groups were: The Experimental Group and The Control Group that belonged to Classroom B and Classroom D, respectively. The emotional intelligence program was applied only to the first group, remaining the second one, as a comparison reference for the final results.

The emotional intelligence program was developed in different sessions during October, November and December of 2010. In this period of time, the emotional intelligence level of both groups, was measured in its four aspects: Interpersonal, adaptability, stress management and positive impression. The used tool for this purpose was the Kids Baron Test, which was taken after and before the emotional intelligence program application (Post and Pre - test).

The Verbal and No-Verbal Social skills aspects in both groups, were assessed using a test specially elaborated for this research work. It was equally taken after and before the emotional intelligence program application (Post and Pre - test).

The results were evaluated using frequency distribution graphics, in order to compare the test punctuation after and before the emotional intelligence program application. The stated research hypothesis was verified with Z normal significant tests.

The Kids Baron test showed that the number of students initially belonging to the level Developing Emotional Intelligence was reduced to zero. Therefore, they were distributed in superior levels: Adequate Emotional Intelligence (increased 30%) and High Emotional Intelligence (increased 43.3%). On the other hand the students social skills were also improved in such a way that the number of students having the lowest level was reduced to zero. The number of students with intermediate and high level was increased in 70% and 73.3% respectively.

To summarize the global results indicated the emotional intelligence program has a significant influence in the students social skills development, in its three aspects: general, verbal and No verbal.
