Transformer Condition Assessment - Test Techniques to Diagnose Transformer Problems

Overview
Power Transformers are one of the most expensive and critical assets on the transmission network. It is vital that the utility take steps to protect their assets to ensure reliable operation of the power system. If a fault occurs on the power system, what is the impact on the transformer? What factors cause the condition of the transformer to deteriorate? How do we diagnose these problems and assess the transformers condition. What can be done to extend the life of the transformer? This seminar is intended to address the above issues by adapting the best scientific and technical knowledge in a practical context to provide the best possible tools and advice to maximize our ability to manage our transformer assets.

Course Outline:
Module 1 Transformer Stresses Electrical Stresses o System transients and surges o Modeling (EMTP studies) o Insulation problems; partial discharges Mechanical Stresses o Faults; core and winding damage o Loose windings
