PREFACE

This standard was prepared by the Association’s Committee on Sterilizing Equipment.

During the preparation of AS 2711, Washer/disinfectors for Respiratory Apparatus, the
need for a standard for drying cabinets for respiratory apparatus was realized. There
is an inherent difficulty in drying corrugated tubing and face masks because of the
tendency for droplets of liquid to remain in troughs of corrugations. The use of drying
cabinets allows washer/disinfectors to be operated with a shorter drying stage, so that
urgently needed respiratory equipment which is easily dried may be returned to service
soon after it has dried without being subjected to the extended times required to dry
corrugated tubing and face masks.

SECTION 1. SCOPE AND GENERAL

1.1 SCOPE. This standard specifies requirements 1132.5 Determination of Arrestance

for drying cabinets which are intended to complete Efficiency, Average Arrestance
the drying of respiratory apparatus, such as E f fi ci e nc y , D u s t - h ol di ng
corrugated tubing, face masks and some other Capacity, and Dust-holding
respiratory equipment, which have been washed, Capacity per Unit of Effective
disinfected and partly dried by a washer/disinfector Face Area for Test Dust Nos 1,
complying with AS 2711. 2 and 3

1.2 INNOVATION. It is not intended that the AS 1449 Wrought Alloy Steels — Stainless and Heat-
standard impose unnecessary restrictions on the use resisting Steel Plate, Sheet and Strip
of new or unusual materials or methods.

1.3 REFERENCED DOCUMENTS. The following Apparatus
standards are referred to in this standard:
AS 3100 Approval and Test Specification for
AS 1132 Methods of Test for Air Filters for Use in Definitions and General Requirements for
Air Conditioning and General Ventilation Electrical Materials and Equipment

SECTION 2. MATERIALS

2.1 GENERAL. Unless otherwise specified herein,
materials and equipment shall comply with the
relevant Australian standards and shall be suitable for
continuous use under every intended operating
condition.
Components subjected to heat shall be able to operate
at a temperature of 100°C.
2.2 FRAMEWORK. Where a fixed frame is
provided, the framework shall be of stainless steel or
hot-dip galvanized carbon steel.
Adjustable support brackets, adjustable feet and
levelling bolts which are fitted to the framework shall
be of stainless steel.
2.3 EXTERNAL PANELS. Visible external panels
shall be of stainless steel having a finish not less
than finish No 3 as specified by AS 1449
(Appendix C in the 1980 edition).
Where external panels are built-in or otherwise not
visible, they shall be of a corrosion-resistant material
which is impervious to moisture.
2.4 DOORS AND CHAMBERS. Doors and
chambers shall be of stainless steel sheet at least
0.9 mm thick having corrosion resistance not less
than that of Grade AS 1449/302; however, viewing
panels of glass may be provided.
2.5 GASKETS. Under operating conditions, gaskets
shall not release toxic products and shall fully seal
the joint.
2.6 FANS. Fans shall be made of corrosion-resistant
materials.
