EDITORS LETTER
I think we all are feeling a little lighter this month (losing a few pounds of sweat) after weeks on end of blazing hot temperatures and heat indexes well over 100 degrees. This wretched heat has kept many folks off the road & chillin inside for a good bit of the summer. It definitely didnt stop all of the die hard riders that no matter how hot (or cold) the temps ever get, they shrug off whatever the thermometer says & hit the road. I personally know 1st hand that its no fun at all to be on your bike sitting in gridlock traffic or being at a red light & it seems to take forever for it to turn green. Thats ok because the cooler temps will be here before we know it. But for now, you should get out to enjoy whats left of the warm summer breezes. The event calendar continues to stay busy with great rides, rallies and charity events. The folks at East Coast Motorcycle Rally have been gracing our covers for the past 2 months (June & July) and they are expecting a good crowd up on Apple Mountain for their event Aug 8th to the 12th. On the 11th head to Orange for the Big Daddys BBQ at Waugh HD.its always a good time there & theyve got a lot of fun & good eats planned for the day. If you havent ever been to Slades Park in Surry for the Dirt Drags, youll have your chance again on the 12th. You should at least try it once & Im pretty sure that youll want to go again & again. You get a little dirty but its well worth all the fun & excitement getting up close & personal while you watch the bikes drag it out & feeling those top-fuelers 1st hand is something you wont soon forget. Shine & polish up those machines to get ready for Southside HDs annual Bike Show, Bike wash & Cookout. Enjoy the day with some amazing bikes, fun folks & their World Famous free lunch. We have been encouraging people to plan rides for the helmet law repeal & if they get it into our calendar & email me a flyer (thunderroadskelly@yahoo. com), Thunder Roads will donate a page space in our magazine for all events connected to raising money for VCOM to fund the lobbyist group that will fight for our right to let those who ride decide. Be sure to submit your event on our website & get the flyer to me by the 15th of the month prior to the event month so we can get it in time. However youll be spending your month, we wish you all the best for fun & safe travels on the road. His career started as a rescue swimmer saving lives, then off to officers school to lead others. He then led the DEA through the rivers of South America to fight the war on drugs and was featured on the TV show COPS for one of the largest drug busts in history. He then led law enforcement teams in Miami to continue the war on drugs, trained Marines in Jacksonville and law enforcement teams in Yorktown, VA, after which he founded the first anti-terrorism team in the Coast Guard. Joe (Cuervo to his biker friends) served as the State Charter VP for the US Military Vets Motorcycle Club in Virginia. Joe fought his toughest battle with brain cancer for almost two years before being called home. Carlisle Bike Fest Flies High in 2012 10th Anniversary Event Battled the Elements to Entertain Thousands
CARLISLE, PA The 10th anniversary of Carlisle Bike Fest hosted thousands of open-air enthusiasts and their bikes during the weekend of July 20-22 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds. With stunt shows, demo rides, special displays and more, Carlisle was transformed into a bikers paradise for three fun-filled days that included bikes spanning multiple manufactures and generations of production. A drizzling rain slowed the Friday activities, but outlets like the Appalachian Harley-Davidson dealer mall and aspects of the demo ride program progressed seamlessly. Further, live music on the 92.1 WTPA Main Stage, performances by the StarBoyz and wrestling matches from the Half Pint Brawlers delighted the attendees who braved the elements. Saturday saw the morning clouds give way to cool temps and a fun atmosphere for the rest of the weekend. The demo rides flowed on and off site for hours with riders taking a spin on the latest products from Victory, Suzuki, Star and Kawasaki. The Half Pint Brawlers returned as did the StarBoyz, while the Monster Energy FreestyleMX.com World Wide Tour took to the air for multiple death defying stunt shows. The day wrapped with a rocking session from the Charm City Devils who traveled 18+ hours from west Florida to be part of the fun.
Carlisle Bike Fest weekend closed on Sunday with an exciting batch of Rat Rods cruising on grounds for the Rat Rod Revival. Dry Mill Road played the pavilion with the Rats, while Nate Myers and the Aces played the main stage. A quartet of giveaways was awarded during the weekend too, including a 2012 Kawasaki Ninja, 2011 Harley-Davidson Sportster, High Seas Rally Cruise and an iPad. Winners of the prizes included John Turrill from Georgia who registered online and won the Kawasaki Ninja from Motor-Vation and Koups Cycle Shop. Additional winners were Linda Palmer of Shermans Dale, Pennsylvania who registered onsite and took home an iPad and Heidi English of Tower City, Pennsylvania who, as a paid vendor on grounds was automatically entered for the giveaways, won the High Seas Rally Cruise. Rich Shuker of Mohnton, Pennsylvania, also registered onsite and won the Harley-Davidson Sportster from Appalachian Harley-Davidson. All winners have been notified and have gleefully accepted their prizes. The 2013 Bike Fest event is already in the planning stages. After scorching heat in 2011 and a smidge of rain in 2012, next years event, July 19-21 should split the difference and be absolutely perfect!

CALIFORNIA LAWMAKERS BAR MOTORCYCLE-ONLY CHECKPOINTS On Friday, July 13, California became the fourth state in the country to oppose roadside checkpoints that target motorcyclists. Governor Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 1047 into law, joining with Virginia, North Carolina and New Hampshire in prohibiting law enforcement agencies from using safety grant money to fund motorcycle-only checkpoints. Persistence pays off! said Jim Lombardo, lobbyist for ABATE of California. It took two years of hard work to get our bill through both Transportation Committees, the Assembly and Senate Appropriations Committees, passed by both Houses and then returned to the Assembly for concurrence to a stronger amended bill! AB 1047, sponsored by Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries (R-Lake Elsinore), passed its final legislative hurdle by a unanimous 77-0 vote in the Assembly. The new law becomes effective Jan. 1, 2013. The funding of such checkpoints has made the passage of AB 1047 of paramount importance, noted a letter of support circulated to legislators by C.O.I.R. through the US Defenders program; calling the checkpoints discriminatory and un-American, they noted that Across California, law enforcement agencies have been using these funds, not to establish generic checkpoints intended to stop all vehicles looking for impaired operators, or unsafe vehicles. Rather, these checkpoints have been stationed adjacent to motorcycle events and stop only motorcycle riders while automobile drivers are waved on. On the federal level, dozens of Congressional Representatives have signed onto House Resolution 904 by Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) to bar the U.S. Department of Transportation from providing funds to government agencies for motorcycle safety-equipment roadside checkpoints. Meanwhile, Aid to Injured Motorcyclists (A.I.M.) Attorney Mitchell Proner of NYC is appealing a federal judges ruling that upheld the constitutionality of such roadblocks, vowing to take the fight on behalf of ABATE of New York and the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM) all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary. CONGRESS PASSES FEDERAL HIGHWAY BILL The Highway Bill, HR 4348: MAP-21, has cleared both chambers of Congress and is expected to be signed into law soon by President Obama. The 600-page $120 billion federal funding measure reauthorizes funds for transportation projects through 2014, and extends the motorcycle safety grant program to the states amounting to a percentage of each states federal safety dollars that must be spent on rider education and awareness campaigns. Despite considerable lobbying by motorcyclists, language from HR 904 to block funding of motorcycle-only checkpoints was not included in the final passage due to technical germaneness issues, but on the flipside no provisions were adopted in the bill that would negatively impact motorcycling. EPA OFFICIALLY APPROVES E15 FOR SALE IN THE U.S. Putting E15 (a mixture of 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline) on sale in the U.S. has been all but official since April, when the Environmental Protection Agency approved the first applications to make E15. Now, all but official has become official,
with the EPA giving approval for retailers to start selling the controversial biofuel, which many claim can damage smaller engines such as motorcycles and ATVs and void manufacturers warranties. NEVADA MOTORCYCLE CLUBS SUE POLICE FOR CIVIL RIGHTS ABUSES Four motorcycle clubs that belong to the Southern Nevada Confederation of Clubs (COC) have filed a federal lawsuit against the Metro and North Las Vegas police departments claiming that their civil rights have been systematically violated. Dozens of club members of the Mongols, Bandidos, Vagos and Stray Cats allege they have been unlawfully targeted and harassed by the two police departments for several years, and the 78 complainants are seeking over $75,000 on each of its 15 different claims and punitive and exemplary damages of more than $75,000. The lawsuit claims that Las Vegas police threatened to revoke the liquor licenses of local businesses if they served certain motorcycle club members or let them frequent their place of business. The legal action cites numerous other incidents of abuse, including police officers purportedly informing members of the Stray Cats that they had no constitutional rights on the streets of Northern Las Vegas. Legal documents detail six encounters that occurred between June 2010 and September 2011 that violated the patch holders First, Fourth and 14th Amendment rights, but attorney Stephen Stubbs and Southern Nevada Confederation of Clubs President Guido Novicelli say the harassment has gone on for more than the two years the lawsuit covers. All were really looking for is to be able to meet and have a good time and ride motorcycles without being harassed, said Novicelli. Everybody has the same constitutional rights, said Stubbs, serving as legal counsel for the 37 Las Vegas-based clubs that comprise the Southern Nevada COC. The minute we start disregarding someones constitutional rights because we dont agree with them, this country is in big trouble. NY BILL WOULD REQUIRE MOTORCYCLE SAFETY EDUCATION FOR NEW DRIVERS A New York bill that would improve motorcycle safety by including awareness training in the state Department of Motor Vehicles required courses passed unanimously in the Senate on June 4. S.7138 would amend the Vehicle and Traffic Law to create a two-hour motorcycle safety and awareness component to the DMVs mandatory five-hour pre-licensing course for new drivers. Specific requirements would be set by the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles. This is just one more step towards making our highways safer for both motorcyclists and those traveling on four wheels, said state Senator Patricia A. Ritchie (RHeuvelton) who cosponsored the bipartisan measure along with Sen. Kevin Parker (D-Brooklyn). By teaching people how to properly share the road, we can cut down on accidents and help save lives. Now Senator Ritchie is looking for a sponsor to introduce the legislation in the general Assembly. RHODE ISLAND RIDERS GET DESIGNATED PARKING A new Rhode Island law will require all state and municipal

buildings to provide designated parking spaces for motorcycles from April to November. The legislation, sponsored by Senator John J. Tassoni Jr. (D-Smithfield) and State Representative Peter John Petrarca (D-Linclon), was recently approved by the General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Lincoln D. Chafee (I). The legislation dictates that city and town officials create parking plans by this November for parking areas at municipal buildings and mandates that the new parking spaces, marked by appropriate signage, be made available by April 1, 2013. All state, city, or town buildings must establish a motorcycle parking plan by November, with the number and placement of the motorcycle parking spaces varying by building, and to be determined by the number of employees who use motorcycles. Waugh Enterprises Harley-Davidson hosted the 20th Annual Big Damn Bike Show on Saturday June 16th, 2012. The event was attended by thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts from all over Virginia and surrounding states. With beautiful weather on our side, a constant stream of motorcycles rode into the Orange Virginia dealership. The bike show had a near record 139 entries- many great bikes on display! Attendees were treated to music by local band SP511 and the always popular riding demos by the Fairfax County Motor Squad. A couple new attractions on the schedule this year were the International Bikini Model bike wash and Half-Pint Brawlers wrestling. This was one of the largest crowds in the 20 year history of the Big Damn Bike Show- and what a great time it was! Summertime Love
If I remember summer time is when we fell in love at the beach on our summer vacations. I fell in love every summer with the girl of my dreams and each year the summer would end and my dream girl would go back home and I would be left all alone with just those sweet memories that linger on every summer. In the summer of 1973 on the 4th of July weekend, I feel in love with a Jersey Girl and we have been together ever since. The Scriptures speak a lot about love but this month I want us to see love in a different way than we have heard about it in the past. (Song of Solomon 1:1-4 NKJV) If Israel and Judah had been satisfied with the delights of human love among themselves as these young lovers enjoyed, they might not have fallen into ruin as they did. Intermarriage with heathen nations around them brought the influence of the corruptions of a morally declining civilization. Consider that for Christians, the Song of Solomon is held to be a deeply spiritual telling of Christs love and relationship with the Church. So much of Scripture deals with the Law, that you might get the impression that theres very little emotion behind it other than anger for disobedience. This book displays the deep emotion of love that is the foundation to Gods desire for a personal relationship with us individually and the church as a whole. The Song of Solomon illuminates the true role of love in personal relationships. A faithful relationship is only the beginning model for His people; it extends to the deep affection and friendship of a perfect love relationship extending well beyond that of a King and His subjects. Falling in Love, United in Love, Struggling in Love and Growing in Love Like all relationships, it requires commitment and perseverance to make it successful. The emotions of love must eventually give way to the deeper commitments of loving behaviors that produces a mature friendship and partnership. The relationship must be working towards the same end, for the same goals and objectives.

A man and his wife were awakened at 3:00 am by a loud pounding on the door. The man gets up and goes to the door where a drunken stranger, standing in the pouring rain, is asking for a push. Not a chance, says the husband, it is 3:00 in the morning! He slams the door and returns to bed. Who was that? asked his wife. Just some drunk guy asking for a push, he answers. Did you help him? she asks. No, I did not, it is 3:00 in the morning and it is pouring rain out there! Well, you have a short memory, says his wife. Cant you remember about three months ago when we broke down, and those two guys helped us? I think you should help him, and you should be ashamed of yourself! The man does as he is told, gets dressed, and goes out into the pounding rain.. He calls out into the dark, Hello, are you still there? Yes, comes back the answer. Do you still need a push? calls out the husband. Yes, please! comes the reply from the dark. Where are you? asks the husband. Over here...on the swing, replies the drunk. Morris, a crusty old biker and his old lady Esther went to the state fair every year, And every year Morris would say, Esther, Id like to ride in that helicopter. Esther always replied, I know Morris, but that helicopter ride is fifty dollars, and fifty dollars is fifty dollars One year Esther and Morris went to the fair, and Morris said, Esther, Im 85 years old. If I dont ride that helicopter, I might never get another chance. To this, Esther replied, Morris that helicopter ride is fifty dollars, and fifty dollars is fifty dollars. The pilot overheard the couple and said, Folks Ill make you a deal. Ill take the both of you for a ride. If you can stay quiet for the entire ride and dont say a word I wont charge you a penny! But if you say one word its fifty dollars. Morris and Esther agreed and up they went. The pilot did all kinds of fancy maneuvers, but not a word was heard. He did his daredevil tricks over and over again, But still not a word. When they landed, the pilot turned to Morris and said, By golly, I did everything I could to get you to yell out, but you didnt. Im impressed!. Morris replied, Well, to tell you the truth, I almost said something when Esther fell out, But you know, fifty dollars is fifty dollars!

RIDE REVIEW V8 Choppers, 012 HT Model

Article and pics by Terry T Collier, TRM Oklahoma I hope that all of you have had a chance to go sky diving, Rocky Mountain climbing and lasted that 2.7 seconds on a bull named FuManchu. No? Well, neither have I, however, I did get a fantastic ride on a V8 Chopper! Thats right. A Chopper! Two Wheels, 44 degree rake, TEN foot long, 300/18 Rear Tire with a V8 small block motor. Dont ask, whats wrong with you T? You all know me well enough to know that when I got the call from Cody Hughes, Marketing Director of V8 Choppers in Miami, OK asking if Id like to tour the factory and ride a chopper, I jumped at the opportunity. If you arent familiar with this company or these motorcycles, please pay attention. This company is owned by Stan Hughes and family. They just celebrated their ten year anniversary and are still growing. In a short visit with Stan and Cody, I could tell that the key words Id found in researching their company like Relationships, Values of High Excellence and Core Principles were who these people were. They welcomed us right in and within minutes, they had a gorgeous, black, beefy V8 Chopper fired up in front of the building for me. I have to admit, at this point, I was a bit intimidated by the thought of the weight and horsepower of this machine that I was about to straddle. This machine weighs approximately 1,200 pounds. However, I know weight doesnt matter on a bike if you dont plan to bench press it. So, I tried not to let that bother me. Stan went over the bike with me so that Id know how to ride it. Although, Ive ridden some incredible bikes in my years, there are some things about a V8 single speed automatic transmission bike that arent familiar. The first thing he showed me was that there is no clutch. And it was easy to see that there was no rear brake lever at my right foot. Its where the clutch lever normally sits. This stressed me out a bit as I was thinkingHow will I remember that? The next item to address was the kill switch. They are equipped with an emergency kill switch to attach to my belt in the event the throttle stuck as these dont have a clutch to pull and get it shut down. From here, Stan went ahead and pulled the chopper out of the factory parking lot and across the gravel and dirt temporary road that had been created by the road construction in front of the shop. I was relieved that my first twist of the throttle wasnt across all that rough terrain! I followed him on a trike that he had gotten as a trade. Once stopped on a safe pullout area on the highway, it was time for me to take the handlebars. What a beast! My first concern was how heavy it was going to be to lift upright. As I sat on the bike, I was quick to note that I sat very low in the seat which is only 22.5 off the ground. I sat comfortably as if to sit down in the bike. It doesnt sit at too radical an angle on the kickstand so it wasnt bad lifting upright. Next, I attached the kill switch cable to me and listened to the instructions Stan had for continuing this exhilarating adventure. It was now time to fire it off. A quick and gentle roll to the right occurs as the flywheel cranks and she fires right up. Her motor purrs and the exhaust is a deep throaty noise, much like an old muscle car with short pipes. What a
rush! I take ahold of the handlebars a little tighter than normal as I pull the front brake so I can take it out of neutral and into gear with the easy to find lever under the seat. Theres a gentle nudge forward as she pops into gear. Now! Im a little anxious! I must admit. My thought before riding this chopper was that it would have so much throttle and reaction time, that it would be dangerously fast from start to finish. I almost assumed that it would be hard to control or gauge the power to the rear wheel. I was wrong! As Stan had instructed, I let off the brakes and gave it just a tad more throttle than normal to lift off. This is necessary in order to allow for a delayed reaction for the converter to kick in. It doesnt mean the bike takes off slow, but its just something to get used to in getting this heavier, long chopper off of a stopped position. AND Off we went. Oh my, what a spectacular feeling to take off on this grand machine for the first time. Surprisingly, I had complete control of the power to the rear wheel. Yes, I could idle along, but when I wanted, I could crank the throttle and it was instant propulsion. The chain on the final drive takes out any delay and yes, Its Fast! I doubt that I really needed to say that, but it was a blast for sure. Did I mention this is a rigid frame chopper? No. Its probably because I forgot as it doesnt have the impact on my body of a rigid. Its much due to the length and its designed to have 60% of the weight on the large rear tire. Its 4 ground clearance assists in a low center of gravity to give it an outstanding balance on the roll. She handled very easily. The front end didnt feel heavy, but rather easy to maneuver. Turns were smooth and felt as if we flowed around them. By the time we had ridden a ways, I was so confident on it, that I took it back across the rough construction terrain without any problem pulling back into the V8 Choppers Shop. As we discussed the ride and what I thought, I stood back to admire the sleek lines of the bike. It has a large tank that is shaped nicely and not too overbearing. From the eye appealing electronic speedo to the taillights hidden in the end of the fender strut, every detail has been well engineered. The exhaust is positioned underneath the bike to keep the sleek lines while also providing a safer and cooler ride for the rider. I mentioned to Cody that I was really surprised that Id not noticed the heat as much as Id thought I would. We discussed how the motor is positioned completely in front of the rider rather than under them. This helps tremendously. I could go on and on, but Ive got to let you just see for yourself. KITTY LITTER CAKE
Heres a novel idea for dessert to take to your next party or pot luck picnic!!! Its completely edible! It may not look very nice, but its actually quite tasty. CAKE INGREDIENTS: 1 box spice or German chocolate cake mix 1 box of white cake mix 1 package white sandwich cookies 1 large package vanilla instant pudding mix A few drops green food coloring 12 small Tootsie Rolls or equivalent SERVING DISHES AND UTENSILS 1 NEW cat-litter box 1 NEW cat-litter box liner 1 NEW pooper scooper
KITTY LITTER CAKE
1) Prepare and bake cake mixes, according to directions, in any size pan. Prepare pudding and chill. Crumble cookies in small batches in blender or food processor. Add a few drops of green food coloring to 1 cup of cookie crumbs. Mix with a fork or shake in a jar. Set aside. 2) When cakes are at room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl. Toss with half of the remaining cookie crumbs and enough pudding to make the mixture moist but not soggy. Place liner in litter box and pour in mixture. 3) Unwrap 3 Tootsie Rolls and heat in a microwave until soft and pliable. Shape the blunt ends into slightly curved point s. Repeat with three more rolls. Bury the rolls decoratively in the cake mixture. Sprinkle remaining white cookie crumbs over the mixture, then scatter green crumbs lightly over top. 4) Heat 5 more Tootsie Rolls until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box. Heat the remaining Tootsie Roll until pliable an d hang it over the edge of the box. Place box on a sheet of newspaper and serve with scooper. Enjoy!

Just an Observation
By Tim Wilmoth Thunder Roads Staff Correspondent In the last 12 months Ive been down and unable to ride but for brief gaps between surgeries and recovery periods but I still try to get out to some events if possible. What I have noticed is attendance is way down at bike happenings here in the Commonwealth and its troubling. The last thing I was able to go to was the Central Va. Bike Fair in Chase City, always a good time, but the crowd was thinned to about half of normal. Ive got a picture here of the parking field. A decent crowd but I have seen that field covered in chrome from one end to the other, hundreds & hundreds of motorcycles. I know times are tight guys and the economy is as bad as I have ever seen it but we have to get out to these events and support our community, our tribe of two wheeled brothers and sisters if you will. Organizers, volunteers mostly, put a lot of time and effort into creating events where we can gather with like minded people and participate in things of common interest. If we dont start doing a better job of supporting these causes we may find ourselves with no place to congregate and nothing to do. I know, its really all about the ride, the journey, but its nice to be able to stop some place where theres a cold beverage and a bunch of shiny bikes to enjoy. It wasnt just Chase City, its everywhere Ive been. The Va. Bike Fest in Dinwiddie was the same way, about half of whats normal. They were giving away barbeque and letting you make a pass down the drag strip on your ride. There were beautiful bikes to look at, live music and cheap cold beer but still you didnt come. Its the same for your local bike shop or bike friendly restaurant. You have to go to these places and take them your business. These places exist for two reasons, so that you have someplace enjoyable or helpful to go to and in doing so they can earn a living. Its a you scratch my back and Ill scratch yours kind of thing. If we dont go there and spend a dollar or two, they cant exist and that severely narrows the choices of destinations for our journeys. Your local bike shop for example. Sure you might can get a part or trinket online from a stranger a little cheaper but will that person be there if you have a question or need some advice? Dont count on it. Go to a local shop or two or three and get to know the people that operate these places. Then we you need some insight into whatever youre working on, considering to buy or whatever, you have a wealth of information at your disposal. I imagine most everyones heard the expression you dont miss the water until the well runs dry. Theres a lot of truth to that ol saying. Yall think about it.

Richard Blais was recently on The Chew, and I wrote down this recipe. These (2) recipes are for you, Super B. RICHARD BLAIS PASTRAMI SPICED BRISKET 3-4 Pounds Brisket (fatty end) 1/4 Cup of Coriander Seeds 1/4 Cup of Black Pepper 2 Tbls. Cayenne Pepper 1/4 Cup Salt 1 Cup of Dark Brown Sugar 3/4 Cup of Yellow Mustard 3 Tbls. of Vegetable Oil Rinse your brisket under cold water and pat dry with a clean towel. Season meat generously, both sides, with the salt, pepper, coriander and cayenne pepper Add your 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil to a non-stick skillet or a well-seasoned cast iron skillet. Get it screeching hot on medium high heat. Gently add your brisket down into hot pan & oil and sear the brisket until a dark golden brown on all sides. Remove to a platter to rest until cool, apprx. 20 mins. Meanwhile, arrange 2 giant sheets of heavy-duty aluminum foil on your counter. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. In a small mixing bowl, mix the brown sugar and mustard to make a paste. Rub the brisket with the mustard paste and place on one of the sheets of foil. Make sure that the fat side is facing upwards. Place the other sheet of foil on top of meat and pinch and roll up all 4 sides to make sure that it is completely enveloped and no steam or paste can escape. Place in a large casserole dish and cook for a full 10 hours. Remove from oven and just let it rest for 10 minutes on counter. Remove foil carefully and transfer brisket to a large serving plate. This brisket will literally melt in your mouth, plus you have this phenomenal sauce in the foil to pour over it. It makes fantastic sandwiches also. *This is essentially the same way I cook a pot roast when Im doing it in the oven and not my crock-pot; only with different spices 4 2 2 2 YET ANOTHER STYLE; BBQ BRISKET Pound Brisket Cups Chicken Stock Bottles of Dark Beer Tbls. of Cumin Seeds; crushed
1 Tbls. Coriander Seeds; crushed 2 Chipotle Peppers; chopped (be sure and wash hands well after handling these and dont touch your mouth or eyes) 2 Tbls. Adobo Sauce (really Hot Sauce) 1 Large Onion; Sliced 2 Tbls. Cooking Oil (olive or vegetable, your choice) Salt & Pepper your brisket thoroughly Heat a Dutch Oven (heavy gauge pot & lid) to high heat; add oil, sear your brisket on all sides, Reduce heat to medium and remove brisket to rest. Add sliced onion, garlic, cumin seeds and coriander seeds. Add the chicken stock, beer and adobo sauce and chipotle peppers. Stir up well. Place brisket back on top of everything in Dutch Oven and place in 350 degree oven for 3 hours until fork tender. All the ingredients you added simmer down to create a truly delicious, natural BBQ sauce. Shred & bun up w/ coleslaw. FROZEN CHEESECAKE SQUARES 2 Frozen, Pre-made Oreo Pie Crust 2 8 oz. Pkgs. of Philly Cream Cheese; softened 1/2 Cup of Sugar or Splenda 1 tsp. Pure Vanilla 1 Tub of Cool Whip; thawed & divided 1 Can of Hersheys Chocolate Syrup Unthaw Oreo pie crusts and warm in oven if stated on directions, then take both crusts and form into a crusted bottom in a 9 inch square pan with foil lined bottom and coming up the sides for easy removal. Beat cream cheese, sugar & vanilla large bowl with mixer until light and fluffy. Add 2 full cups of the Cool Whip, beat on low speed until blended. Spread over and high up over pie crust. Freeze for 4 hours. Microwave remaining Cool Whip and chocolate together on high for 1 minute (place a paper towel over top) Stir until chocolate and Cool Whip are well blended. Use foil sides to remove cheesecake from squared pan, drizzle chocolate mix zig-zagy all over squared cheesecake and cut into generous size squares. * Tip: Spoon entire chocolate & Cool Whip mixture into small re-sealable plastic bag and snip the end with scissors to have better control on your zig-zagging with the chocolate design. These are super simple and simply super!

I want to make everyone aware of a situation that arose last week. If you are aware of anyone else who has experienced a similar situation please let me know or have them contact me. I received a telephone call from a gentleman who was injured in a single vehicle accident. He freely admitted that he was to blame. He merely lost control momentarily and went down. It can happen to the best of us. His concern was his hospital bill. His primary health insurance is Medicare and he has no medical expense coverage on his motorcycle. When he went to the emergency room he provided the hospital with all of his insurance information. Last week the hospital sent him a letter which he provided to me. The letter states in pertinent part the following: We are aware that you have Medicare as primary and Mutual of Omaha as secondary insurance, however we cannot bill Medicare for an motorcycle accident. Apparently the hospital is under the belief that if you are injured on a motorcycle that Medicare does not and will not cover you. That is clearly not the case. We are assisting him at no charge being that this is of importance to all motorcyclists. Hopefully this is an isolated incident. However, many times we see trends in the insurance industry and we want to take care of this one early if that is the case. If you are anyone that you know has experienced a similar situation please let us know. I will let you know the outcome of this incident once it is resolved. Code Changes
I never thought that 700 miles on your motorcycle could be miserable but this weekend proved me wrong. While the heat was oppressive the company was great. I want to thank the Virginia Bikers Association for the great poker run to benefit the Virginia Coalition of Motorcyclists. However if
change that went into effect yesterday makes it legal for two two-wheeled motorcycles to travel abreast in a single lane. The code now reads as follows: A person shall be guilty of reckless driving who drives any motor vehicle so as to be abreast of another vehicle in a lane designed for one vehicle, or drives any motor vehicle
you do it again perhaps November would be a better month. so as to travel abreast of any other vehicle traveling in a lane designed for one vehicle. Nothing in this section shall I want to remind everyone of the changes to Virginia code that went into effect recently. The first is 46.2103 which governs the stopping of motor vehicles by law enforcement. It has been amended to make clear that law enforcement does not have the authority to conduct motorcycle only checkpoints in Virginia. The code now reads as follows: Except as prohibited by 19.2-59, on his request or signal, any law-enforcement officer who is in uniform or displays his badge or other sign of authority may: 1. Stop any motor vehicle, trailer, or semitrailer to inspect its equipment, operation, manufacturers serial or engine number; or 2. Stop any property-carrying motor vehicle, trailer, or semitrailer to inspect its contents or load or to obtain other necessary information. Nothing in this section, however, shall be construed to authorize the establishment on any highway of police check-points where the only vehicles subject to inspection are motorcycles. The second change is to 46.2-857 which is the statute that makes it reckless driving to drive a motor vehicle abreast of another motor vehicle in a single lane. The

These changes to Virginia code reflect the hard work and cooperation of motorcyclists across the Commonwealth. It also demonstrates that we are not hostages of the system. If we disagree with a law we have the collective power to change it. We have proven that time and time again.
