If you are skilled at painting or drawing, you can make masterpieces without needing to pay high prices for expensive artwork. Area rugs are a good addition in any room. It is important, though, that the rug fits in the room properly. In larger rooms, the area rug should be of sufficient size so that it doesn't look awkward in the room. But if the room is small, a large rug will look too imposing. When room colors are chosen by children, they usually select colors that are very bright and bold, that parents usually do not prefer. Letting them pick the color is a great idea, but use a lighter version of what they pick out instead. Then, give them the freedom to choose absolutely any color for their furniture. Rather than bold neon blue walls, go for a softer shade for the room, but paint the dresser or nightstand in the neon colors they prefer. Choosing the correct color scheme for your room is very important. Provide the room with a tasteful, well-balanced appearance by understanding which colors are complementary and which ones clash. Keep bold colors separated, you shouldn't use more than one or two in a single room or it will
get too busy looking.
Artwork is an elegant addition to the walls of any room in the house. A dull looking room can have more feeling and ambiance due to a few art pieces. Match your artwork to the mood of the room it will be shown in. For the best impact of the artwork, make sure it is hung at eye level. Become a collector. A collection consist of three or more items that belong to a single category. Three statues or even antiques that have a common theme are a great start for a collection. Three pictures could also constitute a collection. Create a grouping of your objects, making sure they coordinate with the surrounding items for a pleasing effect that is sure to draw attention. In attempting a design project for a small room it is ideal to research tricks for making the room appear larger. By brightening up your home and placing furniture in certain areas you can really make your home feel roomier. You should learn everything you can in order to open up a small living space. Interior design may not be for everyone, but you can do it if you set your mind on it. But nobody has to fear interior design when the right information is at hand. Use this advice and you should never be short if home design ideas.

Go Scalloping!
Head up to Crystal River on the west coast, hire a guide and have a fantastic trip! We stayed at the Plantation Inn on Crystal River and called Riverventures and booked our morning scalloping trip. Our captains name was Sean, he was great, He new the bay, where to go for the scallops, gave us tips on how to catch the scallops and into the warm water we went. 5 miles out into the Gulf the water was flat like a mirror, the water was only 5- 6 deep & warm! We took our bounty back to the hotel...sat outside and cleaned them and put them on ice and brought them home. Some hotels restaurant will clean and cook them, but we decided to bring ours back home.....and have a special dinner and laugh about all the fun we had! We also rented our own pontoon boat and jumped into several rivers and swam with the Manatees. Building The Honesty Seed
by Nancy Proffitt A successful business man was growing old and knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business. Instead of choosing one of his Directors or his children, he decided to do something different. He called all the young executives in his company together. He said, "It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you. "The young executives were Shocked, but the boss continued. "I am going to give each one of you a SEED today, one very special SEED. I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from the seed I have given you. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO." One man, named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly, told his wife the story. She helped him get a pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed. Everyday, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow. Jim kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing. By now, others were talking about their plants, but Jim didn't have a plant and he felt like a failure. Six months went by -- still nothing in Jim's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Jim didn't say anything to his colleagues, however, he just kept watering and fertilizing the soil, He so wanted the seed to grow. A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company brought their plants to the CEO for inspection. Jim told his wife that he wasn't going to take an empty pot. But she asked him to be honest about what happened. Jim felt sick to his stomach, it was going to be the most embarrassing moment of his life, but he knew his wife was right. He took his empty pot to the board room. When Jim arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other executives. They were beautiful, in all shapes and sizes. Jim put his empty pot on the floor and many of his colleagues laughed, a few felt sorry for him! When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young executives. Jim just tried to hide in the back. "My, what great plants, trees and flowers you have grown," said the CEO. "Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!" All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Jim at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered the Financial Director to bring him to the front. Jim was terrified. He thought, "The CEO knows I'm a failure! Maybe he will have me fired!" When Jim got to the front, the CEO asked him what had happened to his seed. Jim told him the story. The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Jim. He looked at Jim, and then announced to the young executives, "Behold your next Chief Executive Officer! His name is Jim!" Jim couldn't believe it. Jim couldn't even grow his seed. "How could he be the new CEO?" the others said. Then the CEO said, "One year ago today, I gave everyone in this room a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds; they were dead, it was not possible for them to grow. All of you, except Jim, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Jim was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new Chief Executive Officer!" * If you plant honesty, you will reap trust * If you plant goodness, you will reap friends * If you plant humility, you will reap greatness. * If you plant perseverance, you will reap contentment * If you plant consideration, you will reap perspective * If you plant hard work, you will reap success * If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation So, be careful what you plant now; it will determine what you will reap later. Block Party!
In the good ole summertime......
Florida in the summer, hot, hot, hot. But come evening its not, not, not. This is the time of year we all can enjoy the outside at night, come around 7ish. After a day in the pool or the ocean we stoke up our bar-b-ques and smokers and grab a cold one to enjoy the night side. On my block we like to embrace the summer with our annual block party. We started a few years back when several new folks moved in. The first one was a blessing in disguise because, as it turned out that was the year of Jeanne and Francis. Since we all got to know each other a little better we were able to rally around one another and tough out the storms together. This was a perfect example of community and is why you might consider having your own block party. Also it's a great way to try out and taste new recipes and meet your neighbors.
The process is easy!

1. Send fliers out to your neighbors, requesting an availability date (we usually give a choice of 2), what dish and or supplies they would like to bring. 2. Obtain a permit from your municipality to block off street. 3. We also include a per person fee to cover the expensive of the permit. 4. Have a Blast!! If you haven't done this before, I suggest you give it a go. Even though we started out small, to date we now have almost doubled in size and have included the next block over! This year we even sprang for fire works! Below are a few recipes from our party. Maybe you will use one for your next block party. Keep in mind to keep recipes easy and uncomplicated to handle. Enjoy! Here are a few simple recipes that are easy to prepare ahead of time and assemble right before serving.
Watermelon and Feta Salad
6 cups watermelon chunks (about 2 cubes) 1 bunch fresh mint chopped 1 cup crumbled feta juice of 1 lime fresh ground pepper salt to taste Mix all ingredients together and serve. I've seen a similar recipe using chili pepper or cayenne but have not tried it that way. I also have added a small amount of chopped basil as well.

And here's a twist on Tomato and Basil Salad

20 pieces of marinated mini mozzarella balls 20 grape tomatoes both yellow and red 10 pitted kalamata olives 10 pitted green olives 20 skewers Thread each skewer with a piece of cheese a piece of tomato and a piece of olive. Alternate the pattern and put on decorative tray. Serve. You could do some skewers with chunk of hard salami and cornichons as well.
10 ripe tomatoes, peeled, seeded and cored sweet onion 1 large cucumber, peeled, and seeded 1 red or yellow pepper, seeded 1 stalk celery 1 clove garlic jalepeno pepper, seeded 1 T red wine vinegar cup olive oil 1 cup canned tomato juice tabasco, if desired 2 t salt t fresh ground pepper chopped cilantro and Italian parsley Put all raw vegetables into a food processor in small batches process to desired consistency. I personally like it on the chunky side, but you can make it to your own liking.Add the rest of ingredients and let sit overnight. Adjust to your taste by adding s&p and a little tabasco if desired. Serve ice cold.
