Fat skinny body shape perspective Comparing, human nature to be the same. Compare what we think is ugly and pretty and why. How society gives us the standards. No one on the street where kimonos or lip pans or corsets anymore Show before/after pictures of dieting agency. Being fat and skinny is always associated with eating habits. These days its all about food, the culture and so many things are shared. Quote of that woman that said its so sad that kids are starving in Africa. I would like to be as skinny as them but without the death part. There is noooo part in being extremely skinny that doesnt have death Perception of what is important. Their wellbeing and their health or the way their body is shaped? How did they come about putting these things over the other? Kellogs life cereal. The commercial is about thin woman in a slimming red dress eating the cereal. Her coworkers go how do you do it? How do you feel? and she says I feel really good all gorgeous and relaxed and the gay guy says ring ring? Hello? Its mr. obvious. Being thin makes you feel really good. Its supposed to help you loose weight. http://www.theimpulsivebuy.com/?p=283 This women gives a review of the diet plan they give you. Thanks to those 28 bowls I ate during the Special K Diet, Im now four pounds lighter, sexier, and I think my man boobs just dropped a cup size. I now can confidently run in Baywatch slow motion across a beach and I wont jiggleas much. No meat, no hips, no thighs, no boobs, just skin and bones. Stores make their sizes smaller for big sizes so that people will feel more confident wearing their clothes because it means they can fit in a small size. Perception of beauty is controlled by society. Example is the lip pan and weird earrings. Fat is fertility, rich, healthy, able to survive. Skinny is unfertile, starved, unhealthy and unnatural.

Being thin is not possible if u want a healthy body unless you exercise like crazy. Even exercising will require you to eat more food, because u need the energy. Therefore, the only way you can get that thin body is to starve yourself. You will not find happiness in starving yourself and getting that impossible body shape. You are still the same person. Vogue/fashion industry control the image of beauty. Even in ancient times, the king or queen sets the standards for fashion in the court because everyone wants to be like them, to follow what they like to be one of their kind. Who wants to see a skeleton naked? Who wants to see a skinny woman naked? Bulging flesh is alluring, that what our human nature is used to. We are interested to the things that stick out, the abnormal, the imperfect, the special, one of a kind. Swaying hips and big butts may be ugly or weird but its sexy Dictionary definition for beauty? What is the color of the ocean? Its different every time, just like beauty. Trend setters give use glasses to view what beauty is. There are different kinds of beauty. Beauty is a healthy body. http://monkey.org/~dmcgivn/specialk.htm The last Special K commercial many women remember featured a woman strutting her body in front of a mirror with a tight black dress on, checking herself out and subsequently smirking at the image she saw. The implication was that she looked so good because of her Kellogg's breakfast. In contrast to the little-black-dress woman, the "Look good" ads (while probably far from revolutionary themselves) were most obviously attempting to address something important: the unrealistic portrayals of women's bodies in the media. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/femail/article.html? in_article_id=405600&in_page_id=1879 model dies on the catwalk due to eating nothing but salad, greens and diet coke so she can get to size zero. Should the media have the right to promote skinny women as role models? Should the government have control over the media to print whatever they show? (Freedom of speech vs. protection of teenage minds?) - There is no harm in promoting skinny women as role models because people are smart enough to make healthy choices and learn to have self esteem. They can tell what is reality. - 32% of female network characters are underweight, 3% are obese. As there are TV ratings to restrict certain things from children, so should the influence of being skinny. Children are largely influenced by TV, they still cant make right decisions. Cant tell what is reality. - There are censorship of certain material. Most of them are protection of influence from what a person can do to others (violence, sex). But this is more subtle. - Who has the authority to tell women how they should look? (a group of

people/pop culture/whole society) How do a society judge what is beautiful? Where are the pressures of being skinny coming from? The media. TV, magazines. The fashion world uses super skinny girls. They had to have a ban for too skinny models to go on the catwalk. Celebrities need to be a certain size. Disney princesses have thin waists. Society. Media wont show things unless theres an audience that likes it. So what they are doing to satisfying the market. Weight lose programs. Skinny models for clothes. Parents. Girls are conscious about their body shape as early as eight years old. When their dad or mom says their getting fat they want to do something about it. Peers. Skinny and fat people are bullied in school. From being a victim or a witness keep yourself skinny. But super skinny people are bullied too. What are the long term effects of society from the influenced perspective of teenage minds? (Is it harmless, like clothing style change?) People start believing that a beautiful person is one that is skinny. On TV a beautiful face belongs to a skinny body. People associate a skinny person with anorexia and being vain and either cocky or low self-esteem. This is unfair to people with naturally thin bodies. Affect the skinny women and society. Makes us judge by appearance, narrow our minds and divide us. Women become unsatisfied about their body shape while the truth is everyone has different types of bodies. All trying to achieve one look.

My perspective. What is my personal involvement of this topic? Why am I interested: : - Im a girl, this affects me directly. From my peers and from the media - Clothes we wear. Especially in china when we need to buy clothes that is larger size than usual. Makes us think we are big people - Self esteem. If Im skinny, people wont say Im fat and I won't be a victim. -Fashion, commercials, movies A) Identification of knowledge issue Give a real-life situation. One knowledge issue. B) Treatment of knowledge issues Show good understanding of knowledge issues. C) Knowers perspective Use argument and examples. Include personal involvement. Show individual approach and demonstrate the significances of this topic. D) Connections Perspectives: - designers prefer human clothes hangers because they think clothes look better on them.

- commercials: be skinny to be successful and happy. - peers: skinny is better looking. Fat woman are ugly. - cultures: fat woman are more fertile, better change of survival, sign of wealth. - yourself: being skinny takes effort, achieving that goal is satisfying and then people will notice you. Being fat will make you a target of ridicule and prejudice. How do these perspectives answer my knowledge issues? Ethical egoism do what is necessary for long term happiness Altruism sacrifice our own interests for others. Utilitarianism Overall benefit of everyone

Long term effects: - Women are born with different body shapes from their nationalities. Some cant help being curvy or fat. They have to do something Rationalism the use of reason Logic (pg 92) all celebrities are skinny. If you want to be popular, be skinny Social sciences Determinism and free will (pg 107) The nature/nurture debate Empiricism use of the sense Facts/opinions The natural sciences Rationalism Social sciences Empiricism Paradigms and culture Ethics Politics Feelings, emotions and intuition Long term effects: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080403151849AAMfaaT&show=7 Theres prejudice towards skinny and fat people. People who are naturally skinny get offended by people who are envious. Many people have to put more effort into being skinny and these people dont have to make an effort at all and it feels like cheating. skinny girls are way better than fat girls. we know how to keep our shape unlike the fat people eat and eat on their twinkies.

fat people should really think twice about eatin their next hot dog cuz den they gonna have 2 cut off their legs grosss fat girls are hippos...watch out if u make out with 1 of them if they get hungry they mite try to eat you..lol hey dont insult skinny people bc theyre skinny. ur just jealous. I hate skinny people that eat a lot. It pisses me off! I love food and I want to be skinny again but I can't have both. :( Fat girls rule! I love my women to be big. I could care less for them skinny gals. I don't mind if the belly sticks out further than the breast. Hell I think I may even prefer it, to tell you the truth. I love a fat girls fat all the way down to the rolls on her thighs. And thats no lie. Also just so you all know I'm a skinny guy myself All the girls i find most attractive are what we call "fat". Most of the men I've been friends with also prefer women to be bigger and curvier. skinny girls have a lot in common with twelve year old boys and nothing in common with sexy. I hate our cultural images of beauty. I feel so sad when I see a beautiful and sexy woman, who I can tell is not confident and does not feel attractive. I'm far to sane to think anyone would gain from my telling complete strangers how appealing they look, and I don't know that my girlfriend would approve. I've even known men who are afraid to admit what they find attractive if it isn't aligned with what we see in magazine and film. I'm tall, fit, and passably good looking and I have felt so frustrated when I've tried to pick up a "fat" girl at a bar, and have her say to me, "you think I'm easy just cuz I'm fat!" in anger. They just don't know we guys see and like. I agree with (love-em-large-and-loud)skinny girls are ok but i really like girls i can hold on to anyway there are alot of women out there who have low self esteem because of are society some people like skinny girls but me i dont like seeing there ribs but with fat girls i dont have the problem;) all of you big girls hit me up;) Ok. being OVERWEIGHT is just as bad as being UNDERWEIGHT. so when i see someone heavy, i just think ok so they have more meat. when i see a stick. i think omg look at all that bone, the wind could blow them away! i would rather see a person with more meat then a person where u can see every outline of the humanbody. thats just nasty. 1st of all there is nothing wrong with big girls, and alot of men find them attractive. I'm a big girl and thats ok, but to all you skanky little girls who wanna call big girls hippos or cows, i wanna see one of ya'll walking down the street one day, cause with that added weight comes added muscle and you would get your

ass kicked. And another thing, we big girls may not look good in a bikini but we still know how to work it, and apparently all that time ya'll think we spent alone, with out someone because we were big, i guess it paid off because none of you who claim you are skinny can type or spell. I know you think you look good, but just because you are skinny. Most of you probably look like you fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. I have plenty of big and skinny friends and i love them all. I don't care what you look like as long as you are a good person, and some of the things that i have said in here i would never tell anyone because unlike others i care about peoples feelings, yet another thing most skinny folk don't take into consideration. Once ya'll grow up and realize its whats inside that counts you may be alright. I am underweight for my height and I actually have at least one stranger per week come up to me and look me in the eye and ask "do you have an eating disorder?" I have never ever seen or heard of a stranger going up to an overweight person looking them in the eye and asking "do you have a problem with food?" I do think these strangers may initially think they are concerned for me but if they were really concerned and not just nosey they would probably just say a prayer for me and realize there may be more to the reason I am underweight than having an eating disorder. I may have a really bad disease and then how would they feel. I think anyone who makes a comment to someone they don't know about their size is probably a very unhappy person themselves and is looking to find others they think are not happy so they won't be sad all by themselves. I think the saying is misery loves company. In turn when someone I don't know offers me a bucket of fried chicken or calls me Skelator (both of these things have happened to me recently) I just say a prayer for them and really hope that one day they will have the peace I do and that they won't let other people affect if they have a good or bad day or their own happiness. WELL U CANT B 2 FAT LIKE A PIG OR 2 SKINNY LIKE A STICK OR PEOPLE LAUGH AT U AND YOU PROBABLY LOOK LIKE SH*****T !!! ME, IM JUST THE RIGHT SIZE !!! I'm just confused about how I should look! I mean, I've got a big butt and big boobs, but I don't have a flat stomach like society says I should. Am I ugly? I'm a big girl and I have a pretty low self esteem about it. What, with the movies and media and such. But I would rather be bigger than average than be a stick. All the thin bitches who write that big girls are ugly probably look like they've been hit by a bus themselves. UGLY bitches. Put your hands up if you like top and bottom heavy gals. Why is it ok for people ( usually overweight people ) to make comments about skinny people being too thin, but it's NOT ok for skinny people to make comments about fat people being too fat... I'm sick and tired of complete strangers constantly asking me why am I so skinny!!!!!!!!! yeah i used to get that a lot growing up, that i was too skinny. i didn't like it. but its the value of americans, we generally are overweight so we value being skinny, so much so we have to put other people down for it. I'm just sick and tired of American's obsession with weight. Because when fat people call you skinny, it's because they're jealous....

However, when skinny call fat people "fat"....it's because we're making fun of them....and that's not "nice." I get it a lot at work. Especially when I turn down cupcakes or cake or whatever office treat is being peddled mid-afternoon. I hate the raised eyebrows, the eye rolls when I say that I'm still full from lunch or don't want to spoil my dinner, or the comments like, "Eat a cupcake, you're too skinny." It bothers me, but I know I am healthy, my friends and family know I'm healthy, and anyone who has dined with me knows I can E-A-T with the best of them (well maybe not those hot dog eating contest winners...). I just don't eat when I'm not hungry, which I guess makes me some sort of weird anomoly in the office place? That combined with my slight frame clearly must mean I have an eating disorder. Hello, this is Los Angeles, right? I agree that it can suck, but I think in general people are getting increasingly more vocal about their opinions on other people's physical appearances. Maybe it's a byproduct of the way the media shreds apart celebrities for their physical flaws and shortcomings? All I know is that I often get comments about not just my weight, but my height too. Strangers will come up to me all the time to tell me "Wow, you're tall!" Or "How tall are you?" And I know many girls who get comments about their breast size. Receiving a physical review when you walk down the street or walk into a bar is becoming an American pasttime. Probably not going to go away anytime soon, so the only thing to do is to shrug it off, and be happy that they are at least commenting on something that many consider a virtue. Better than someone asking you if you've been beaten by an ugly stick, right? I'm 5'5" at 130 lbs. Non-asians tell me that my weight is ok while immigrant asians flat out ask me why I let myself get so fat. Sigh. If you are thin, you are perceived as not having any valid problems in your life, and therefore you aren't allowed to complain about anything. If you also happen to be attractive, smart, successful, or have any envious trait, then you're not even considered a real person anymore. If you happen to have all of these things, you will surely be burned at the stake just for leaving the house. See how that works? =)
