Pandora's Box: Weird Science There are three topics in this brief study; Chimera, Agrigenitic, and Genetic

Athletes. In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman on earth, and the gods gave her a box. She was told never to open it. However, her curiosity got the best of her, so she opened the box, and when she did; all the plagues for body and the mind flew out. Though this is a pervert version of the creation story, and how Eve (the mother of all life or living) sinned and brought in sin (and it's destructive effects upon all of mankind), it illustrates a point that science is about to bring in or usher in great plagues upon all if not placed in check. In the present times, we are doing something very similar: we are tampering with engines of creation. The myths of yesterday are becoming the realities of tomorrow. H.G Wells wrote a novel in 1896 titled "The Island of Dr. Moreau", in which Human-Animal Hybrids are a result of horrific experimentations. Well, today, Animal Hybrids are named Chimera (Which is name taken from Greek Mythology). Some Examples: Sheep with human hearts and livers, pigs born with human blood. Are these experiments a modern representation of Pandora's Box? Well, when we start crossing species, it opens an opportunity to create unimaginable disease that we've never seen before. Animal Hybrids are not the only thing we have to worry about. Agrigenitic means genetically altered plants. They can be beneficial, but they pose many problems. Case in Point, Star Link; corn spliced with a powerful toxin, bacillus thurigiesis (BT). This corn variant is 50 to 100 times stronger than any other BT-spliced insecticide, and it has been known to set off many food allergies in humans ranging from fever to sudden death. The FDA approved it only for animal feed, however it was commercialized only in the United States. When word got to the FDA that it was released to the public, Kraft had to recall 2.5 million boxes of corn tacos, USDA recalled all Star Link corn on 350,000 acres planted across the US, and over 400 brands of tortillas, shells, tostadas, and chips were recalled from many supermarkets across the US. Plants are not the only thing being tampered. Scientist at John Hopkins University have discovered a gene in mice which controls growth: GDF-8. GDF-8 stands for Growth or Differentiation Factor 8. Disrupting GDF-8 yielded "super mice" which three times larger and much stronger than untampered mice. 7 years ago, H. Lee Sweeney at the University of Pennsylvania was investigating ways the gene could aid people with Muscular Dystrophy, or elderly patients whose's muscle mass has dangerously declined. Sweeney created a synthetic gene that promotes muscle cell growth, and used a tiny virus to carry the gene into the muscles of laboratory mice. The mice grew 15 to 30% even though the mice had no exercise. When the mice got to old age, they retained their mega-muscles. In 2003: genetically increased the level of eputhropoietin (EPO) in rhesus monkeys. EPO is a hormone that encourages red blood cells and is used to clinically treat disease. It is notoriously used by athletes to improve endurance. Despite serious dangers, genetic manipulation is likely to be a emerging trend in highly competitive sports. The problem is that, testing genetically alter athletes will be very hard to test. Today, forty-five percent of United States corn and eighty-five percent of the soybeans are genetically engineered, and its estimated that to seventy-five percent of processed foods

on grocery store shelves contain genetically engineered ingredients. Science has already produced glow-in-the-dark cats along with cabbage that produce scorpion poison. Scientists have also added penicillin to chicken embryos which produced a new superresistant E. Coli bacteria that is resists all ambiotics such as penicillin and ampicillin. Trees are now being genetically altered to grow faster, yield better wood and even detect biological attacks. There are many new doors open that could destroy life as we know it. Science is a tool. In the hands of the righteous it can be one for great advancements and a spectacular future. But history and the Bible tell us that evil men will rule the world before the Lord Jesus returns to rule over his creation. If you do not know him as your Lord and saviour, then perhaps it is time that you did by following Acts 2:38. "Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Lord Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness (remission) of your sins." Paul agreed to this formula and partook of it himself. Read Acts 22:16. He writes of it in Galatians 3:26-28; Romans 6:1-5; Colossians 3:17; Titus 3:5 among many others. Nobody within the word of God used any other type of baptism. Ciento en la actualidad, cuarenta y cinco de maz estadounidense y el ochenta y cinco por ciento de la soja son modificados genticamente, y se estima que a ciento setenta y cinco de los alimentos procesados en las tiendas de comestibles contienen ingredientes genticamente modificados. La ciencia ha producido ya que brillan en la oscuridad, los gatos, junto con el repollo que producen veneno de los escorpiones. Los cientficos tambin han aadido a la penicilina a los embriones de pollo que se produce un nuevo superresistentes a la bacteria E. Los rboles estn siendo alterados genticamente para crecer ms rpido, producen mejor madera e incluso detectar ataques biolgicos. Hay muchas nuevas puertas abiertas que podran destruir la vida tal como la conocemos. La ciencia es una herramienta. En las manos de los justos que puede ser uno de grandes avances y un futuro espectacular. Pero la historia y la Biblia nos dicen que los hombres malos gobernar el mundo antes de que el Seor Jess vuelve para reinar sobre su creacin. Si no lo conocen como su Seor y Salvador, entonces quizs es hora de que lo hizo siguiendo Hechos 2:38. "Arrepentos, y bautcese cada uno de vosotros en el nombre del Seor Jesucristo, para remisin (perdn) de sus pecados." Pablo est de acuerdo con esta frmula y particip de l mismo.
