School Board committee against buy a seat program

the committee agreed to not begin a buy a seat program and continue to use the current practices to determine and when a non-eligible student may be eligible to ride the buses. In other items before the board: Three health insurance firms have declined to provide bids to the district for its health insurance package. School board member Tom Barney said the Insurance Committee was advised by consultant Greg Kamps that WPS, WCA and UnitedHealthcare declined to provide bids to the village. Barney said that Anthem, Humana and current provider WEA Trust have provided quotes to the district. Right now WEA is the most competitive, Barney said. Barney added that the committee took no action but that it will continue to review information that was presented at the meeting. The board approved a paving contract with Payne & Dolan for asphalt paving on the west side of County Line Elementary School. The contract is for $128,000 and will include removing the old asphalt and restructuring the base. District Business and Auxiliary Services Director Ric Ericksen said the project will include a concrete pad for the school Dumpster. Ericksen said any funds left over will be used for crack sealing at the high school parking lot and repairs to the Kennedy Middle School lot. The district is considering a revision of its logo, and took suggestions from high school students for a different design. Superintendent Sue Borden explained that as the district develops a new mission statement and it is also considering a change in the

The Germantown School District will not be implementing a buy a seat program for student transportation. According to information prepared for the July 16 School Board meeting, the district buses all kindergarten students to school but it does not provide busing for all other students who reside within one mile and have a safe passage to school. As a result, there are situations in which a kindergarten student is bussed to school while other children from the same family walk to school. Under state law, the district can provide transportation to a parent who requests it and can charge the parent for that transportation. Such policies called buy a seat are in place in other school districts and the Transportation Committee reviewed the option. School Board member Michael Loth said

logo. As part of the inspire new students to success, the district asked students for ideas for a new logo. The suggestions from the students along with those from a professional company were included in information prepared for board members. Borden added that if a new logo was selected, it would be phased in over time as printed material for the current logo is used up. If a change is made, Borden indicated it could be unveiled in the district fall newsletter. If there is no interest (in changing the logo), thats great too. I know the students had a good time wrapping their hands around what we were looking for and what could be a possibility, Borden said. By Thomas J. McKillen, Managing Editor

Quit Smoking in 30 minutes

the least amount of side effects that any stopsmoking program can offer. This treatment has a proven success rate of over 85%, and has been successfully used in Europe and Canada with very little publicity here in the United States. This is a program about finally quitting smoking without weight gain and other side effects, and without using other expensive products that continue to keep you addicted to nicotine. Without weight gain, stress and other side effects, this process is accomplished with a low-level light laser. This laser is painlessly applied to the ears, forehead, face, wrists and feet, and takes about 30 minutes. The light is specifically directed at acupuncture sites that help release natural body chemicals to regulate neurotransmitters, endorphins, ATP and hormones. The release of these natural body chemicals reduces cravings, prevents weight gain and lessens withdrawal distress. This is not a psychological treatment. It is a welldocumented physiological, biochemical process that occurs to the cells and body after specific areas of the anatomy are exposed to the proper levels of cold laser beams. (For more scientific detail, please see our website at the FAQ section of quitsmokingin30minutes-wi.com.) Over 2.0 million Americans have quit smoking using laser therapy. For many, laser therapy has been the only method to successfully stop smoking as well as prevent the weight gain and stress usually involved. Our method is effective for all types of nicotine addiction cigarettes, pipes, cigars even chewing tobacco! Our introductory price is $295. This covers the initial treatment and two follow-up treatments if needed. Most people do not require all three. In addition to immediately improving your overall health, at the present cost of cigarettes, you could recoup your money for the laser treatment in as little as 1-2 months! Are you ready to quit smoking? Find out more about this breakthrough treatment at quitsmokingin30minutes-wi.com, or CALL Dr. Douglas Kincaid DPM Toll Free at to get started on a smoke-free life today!

Zipperer to leave Senate for Walker administration post

Sen. Rich Zipperer (R-Brookfield) will be stepping down from his elected post for a position in Gov. Scott Walkers administration. Zipperer was tabbed to be Walkers deputy chief of staff and senior counsel. Zipperers district covered portions of Menomonee Falls, Sussex, Lisbon, Brookfield, Pewaukee, Waukesha, Hartford, Erin and Richfield. He was elected to the Senate in 2010 after serving two terms in the state Assembly. While in the Senate, Zipperer served on the Judiciary, Utilities, Commerce and Government Operations committees. A statement issued by Zipperers office also noted he serves as the Senate Republican appointee on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, and earlier this session he served as a member of the Joint Committee on Finance. Before being elected to the Legislature, Zipperer was deputy chief of staff and district director for Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner (R-Menomonee Falls). He will begin his new position Aug. 6. It has been an incredible honor serving the residents of Waukesha and Washington Counties in the State Assembly and Senate, and I will be forever thankful for the trust the voters placed in me to represent them and their families in Madison, Zipperer said. In my nearly six years in the Legislature, I have been proud to advance reforms to balance our states budget, eliminate wasteful spending, and bring jobs back to our state. Zipperers change was one of three appointments announced by Walker July 18. Ryan Murray was named chief operating officer and deputy secretary of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation while Jocelyn Webster was named Communications Director.

Village officials wait for an train inspector to arrive at a Mequon Road railroad crossing following an accident with a car July 18. There were no serious injuries. According to information from Germantown Police, a 19-year-old woman was cited for inattentive driving after her vehicle hit the train while she was attempting to dial her cell phone. The train was traveling 2-3 mph as a crew was working on the track. Photo by Thomas J. McKillen.

Germantown sweeps sectional, advances to state summer baseball tourney

BY THOMAS J. MC KILLEN MANAGING EDITOR Germantown rallied to tie Arrowhead in the Cedarburg sectional final July 16, and then finished the game with clutch hits in an extra inning to earn their second trip to the state summer baseball tournament in three years. "I'm so happy for the kids," Germantown Coach Jeff Wolf said. "This is a great group of people, they're unselfish, they're good people, great teammates. I'm just happy for them because they work hard in the offseason. They deserve it." Wolf said he felt if his team could stay within one or two runs of Arrowhead, his team was solid enough to take advantage of opportunities. Arrowhead got on the board in the first inning and scored again in the fourth inning as Mitchell Dubnicka doubled to drive in a run. Germantown evened the score in the sixth inning as Louis Tuszynski singled. After Mike Krause fouled out, Jimmy Doedens bunted and the throw from the Arrowhead third baseman went wide, allowing Tuszynski to advance to third. A line drive down the third base side by Brian Keller was ruled to be foul, but Keller recouped and hit a single that scored two runs. "He has such great composure, he's a competitor," Wolf said of Keller. "He's the kind of guy who wants to be up in that situation and Im the kind of coach that wants him to be up in that situation." Both teams were held scoreless in the seventh inning. Arrowhead threatened in the top of the eighth inning, but Germantown got out of the inning as second baseman Zack Kumbier caught a weak fly ball just off of second base and then threw to Blake Fleischman for the force out. Germantown then finished the game in the bottom of the inning as Krause was hit by a pitch. After two outs, Fleischman then dropped a single into right field that allowed Krause to score. Afterward, Fleischman said the pitch was "low and outside" and he was expecting the pitch as he has seen the pitcher's patterns before. Fleischman indicated he at first didn't realize the importance of the hit, as he is "a little deaf" and didn't hear the yelling of the fans. "I didn't hear the cheers, I forgot that I won the game. It was so surreal," he said. Ryan Anderson recorded four strikeouts in eight innings or work, including shutting down Arrowhead over the last four innings. "He did a great job keeping us in that game," Wolf said of Anderson. Germantown opened the Cedarburg sectional with an 8-1 semi-final win over Cedarburg. Twice in the early innings Germantown left the bases loaded without scoring any runs. "Our team has struggled early on in games but we seem to find it. We come through when we need it most," Keller said afterward. Wolf said he told his team "we didn't have to do anything special. They just had to be who they've been all year. They continually come up with big hits." Germantown first got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Taylor Klopatek singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Klopatek then scored on a double by Zack Kumbier. Kumbier advanced to third on a ground out and then scored on a single by Keller. Germantown scored three runs in the sixth inning as Jordan Kuczynski singled, advanced to second on a passed ball, advanced to third on a single by Tom Andrus and scored on a single by Zack Kumbier. Kumbier stole second base and Klopatek walked. A single by Mike Krause allowed Kumbier to score. Germantown finished its scoring with three runs in the sixth inning as Kuczynski reached base after being hit by a pitch. He advanced to second on a single by Andrus and scored on a double by Kumbier. Klopatek then doubled, allowing Andrus and Kumbier to score. Cedarburg got on the board in the seventh inning as the Bulldogs got two run- Germantowns Mike Krause (9) scores the winning run ners on base, with Taylor Piel against Arrowhead off a hit by Blake Fleischman in a scoring on an error. Arrowhead tops Falls in sectional semi-final

Top seed Menomonee Falls lost the first game of the day at the Cedarburg sectional July 16, 7-4. The teams were tied 2-2 after four innings. Arrowhead took a 4-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning as Eric Cottrell doubled to score two runners. Menomonee Falls answered in the bottom of the inning as Joel Zyhowski hit a home run with a runner on base to tie the score. Arrowhead took the lead for good in the sixth inning. A bunt by Matt Gaberino scored a runner and a single by Jordan White scored a second runner. A double by Cottrell then allowed Gaberino to score. Menomonee Falls avoided another run when White was

tagged out at home. Gaberino then finished the game for Arrowhead, getting all three Menomonee Falls batters in the seventh inning to ground out. Arrowhead had 13 hits to five for Menomonee Falls. "They had runners all over the place. It puts pressure on the defense and every mistake is magnified when there's that much pressure on the defense," Menomonee Falls Coach Pat Hansen said. "They kept the pressure on." With the loss, Menomonee Falls season ended with a 27-5 record. By Thomas J. McKillen, Managing Editor
