Tulip Dishcloth by: Doni Speigle

Materials: Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn 1.25 oz. White 20 yds. Red 6 yds. Green Size G Crochet Hook Yarn Needle Finished Size: 8 x 8 Stitches used: ch = chain sl st = slip stitch sc = single crochet dc = double crochet hdc = half double crochet trc = triple crochet Round 1) With White, ch 4 loosely, join with sl st in first chain to form loop. Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 4 dc in loop, (ch 2, 5 dc) 3 times in loop. Ch 2, join with sl st in top of beg ch 3. End off white. (20 dc, 4 ch2 spaces) (This is considered right side of dishcloth)

Round 2) - Flower stems and leaves With right side facing, join green with sl st in 2nd dc of any 5 dc set from prior round. Note: please note when the instructions are calling for a stitch to be worked in one of the ch sts, or one of the dc sts. *Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, sl st in last ch, (this forms the right leaf ) Sl st in next dc st, ch 3, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, and in next ch, (this forms the center stem) Sl st in next dc st, ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, sl st in last ch. Sl st in same dc st as beg ch 5. (this forms the left leaf ) Ch 3, sc in corner ch 2 space, ch 3 sl st in 2nd dc of next 5dc set. Repeat from * around ,ending with a sl st in beg st. (you will have 4 sets of flower stems/leaves) End off green. Round 3) Tulip Petals Row 1) With right side facing, *join red with a sl st in the top of any center flower stem that is between two leaves, ch 1, sc in same st. Row 2) Ch 1, turn, 3 sc in same st. Row 3) Note: As you begin to work row 3, you will be working in the 3 sc sts from row 2. Please make note that when the instructions call for a stitch to be worked in a st, it's referring to one of the sc sts and when the instructions call for a stitch to be worked in a ch, it's referring to one of the ch sts made when you ch5. Ch 5, turn, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, dc in same sc st , (1st flower petal formed) Sl st in next sc st , ch 5, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, dc in same sc st, (middle flower petal formed) Sl st in next sc st ,Ch 5, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, dc in same sc st, sl st in same sc st. (3rd flower petal formed) End off red. Repeat for each of the remaining 3 stems. End off red. Round 4) With right side facing, join white with a sl st in any sc st that is between the ch 3 sts located between flower stem/leaves from round 2. Ch 4 (counts as 1st trc), 2 trc in the ch 3 sp. *sl st in the tip of the right leaf, ch 4, sl st in tip of 1st flower petal, ch 3, sl st in tip of center flower petal, ch 3, sl st in tip of left flower petal, ch 4, sl st in tip of left leaf. 2 trc in ch3 sp **, trc in next sc, 2 trc in next ch 3 sp. * Repeat from * to * 2 times, then repeat from * to **, sl st to top of beg ch 4. (20 trc, 8 ch4 spaces, 8 ch 3 spaces) Do not turn.

Round 5) Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), dc in next 2 trc. *work 4 hdc in next ch 4 sp, 3 hdc in next ch 3 sp, hdc in sl st at tip of center flower petal, 3 hdc in next ch 3 sp, 4 hdc in next ch 4 sp **, dc in each of the next 5 trc*, repeat from * to * 2 times, then repeat from * to **, dc in each of the last 2 trc, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (20 dc, 60 hdc) Do not turn. Round 6) Ch 3, dc in next 9 sts, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) next next st, dc in next 19 sts*, repeat from * to * two more times. (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in last corner, dc in last 9 sts, join with a sl st to beg ch 3. (92 dc, 4 ch2 spaces) Do not turn. Round 7) Ch 4 (counts as 1st dc and ch 1), skip next st, dc in next st, ch 1, *(skip next st, dc in next st, ch 1) * repeat from * to * 4 times, skip next st, (dc, ch 3, dc, ch 1) in corner space, repeat from * to * 11 times, skip next st, (dc, ch 3, dc, ch 1) in corner space, repeat from * to * 11 times, skip next st, (dc, ch 3, dc, ch 1) in corner space, repeat from * to * 11 times, skip next st, (dc, ch 3, dc, ch 1) in corner space, repeat from * to * 5 times, end with sl st to 3rd ch on beg ch 4. End off white. Do not turn. Round 8) Join red with sl st in any ch 1 sp, (ch 1, sc, ch 2, sc) in same sp. *(sc, ch 2, sc) * in next ch 1 sp, repeat around until corner, **(2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) ** in corner space repeat * to * for each side of dishcloth, and repeat ** to ** for each corner. End with sl st to beg ch 1. End off red Weave in ends. For best results, block piece.
