GSM Cell Planning 4 days

COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, the participant will: SUITABLE FOR: PREREQUISITES: CONTENTS: Know how to plan, build and expand the air interface parts of a GSM network in a profitable way. Understand how traffic estimations, link budget margins and capacity enhancing features affect the number of sites needed. Know how to control the cell traffic and MS behavior in both idle and busy mode by proper parameter settings. Enjoy the benefits of having performed a practical course long case study.

Those involved in planning and building a GSM network. GSM System Overview course or equivalent knowledge. We examine the cell planning process as well as the fundamental models, methods and terminology needed by the operator. Special attention is paid to calculating and boosting capacity, reducing interference and understanding the impact of cell parameters. We learn why we need to balance the system and how antenna type and different margins in a link budget table affect the cell range. A network design case study is also included, with exercises on how to dimension a network in terms of number of sites needed.
