National Night Out Tuesday, August 7, 2012

Last years National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations, and local officials from over 15,000 communities, from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 37 million people participated in National Night Out 2011. On Tuesday, August 7, 2012, neighborhoods throughout Sacramento are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 29th Annual National Night Out crime/drug prevention event. From 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., residents throughout the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights, and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. National Night Out is designed to: Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Many neighborhoods throughout Sacramento will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, ice cream socials, bike rodeos, parades, flashlight walks, contests, youth activities and anti-crime rallies.

So join us again in giving a farewell party to crime and drugs!

STREET CLOSURES
If you would like to block off your street for this event the fee will be waived BUT a block party application will still need to be filled out. The application can be downloaded from the following City of Sacramento web site and should be sent to the address listed on the application: http://www.cityofsacramento.org/parksandrecreation/recreation/block.htm If you have any questions about street closures, please contact Special Events Services at 808-7888.
