DIAZO

SENSITIZER FOR SCREEN PRINTING EMULSIONS

PRODUCT: Diazo sensitizer.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

USE: To make screen printing emulsions light sensitivity.

FORMS: In plastic bottles or hermetically sealed pouches. Comes with the exact quantity to sensitize one container of emulsion: 450 ml, 900 ml (1 quart), 3440 ml (1 gallon) or 17.2 liters (5 gallons).

PROPERTIES: Free flowing powder Diazo, easy to dissolve in water The formulation is optimized to maximize the heat resistance, reducing the degradation of the product in warm conditions. Longer shelf life. Free of heavy metals and other components harmful to the environment. Reacts with ultraviolet light in the range of 350 to 450 nm (the peak of absorbance is 410 nm). The emulsion becomes insoluble in water after exposure to this radiation. We recommend the use of halogen or mercury vapor lamps. Using other types of lamps may require a longer exposure time, cause loss of details, incomplete stencil hardening and reduction of the number of prints. If added to Unifilm pre-sensitized emulsions, the water resistance and exposure latitude are increased.

DIAZO
TYPES AVAILABLE: 1) Diazo D: To sensitize the emulsions Dualfilm SP, Decafilm SR, SRX, WR, TX, ACQ and ACQ Clear. In the exact quantity to sensitize one container of emulsion: D/2 for 450 ml, D for 900 ml (1 quart), D*4 for 3440 ml (1 gallon) and D*20 for 17.2 liters (5 gallons). 2) Diazo E: For the other Dualfilm emulsions. Also available in the quantities E/2, E, E*4 and E*20. 3) Diazo H: To be used with emulsions HB36, HB38, Decafilm HD, FAST, PA and PAHV. Packed in H/2, H, H*4 and H*20 quantities. 4) Direct Addition Diazo (D.A.D.): Specially designed for higher solubility in water. Smaller particle size due to the micronizing process provides easier dissolution. Add directly into the emulsion - there is no need to dissolve it in water. For the Dirafilm emulsions. In certain special situations can be added to the Unifilm pre-sensitized emulsions.

SHELF LIFE AND STORAGE: The Diazo sensitizer slowly degrades in the presence of heat and humidity. It has a shelf life of 18 months when stored in refrigerated conditions (below 32F/0C). The shelf life is reduced at higher temperature and humidity. For example, at 72F/22C, the shelf life is approximately 6 months. Avoid long term storage above 78F/25C. Make sure that the transport conditions do not induce faster degradation. The Diazo is a yellowish-green, free flowing powder. When it degrades, it darkens and forms agglomerates. In extreme cases it forms black hard lumps. If these decay characteristics are observed, the sensitizer should not be used. Besides loosing its photographic properties, using spoiled Diazo can ruin certain types of emulsions that contain photopolymers. The degradation of the Diazo is accelerated after it is added to the emulsion (a product that contains water). The sensitized emulsion can be used in up to 3 months if stored at 72F/22C. If stored in cooler conditions (46F/8C), the emulsion can be used in up to 6 months. Attention: never store the emulsion in freezing conditions (under 32F/0C), which will create irreversible damage. After coating the emulsion, do not dry the stencil above 100F/37C. The screen can be exposed in up to 15 days, if kept in dry, cool and dark conditions.

DIAZO
INSTRUCTIONS: Open the bottle (or pouch) and handle the product under yellow light. White light also contains some radiation in the UV range, which can react with the Diazo. If possible, use distilled water. Tap water can be used as long as it is free of insoluble particles, bacteria, excess of chlorine, oils and other contaminants. Attention: do not use water for car batteries, which can contain additives that can damage the emulsion. To sensitize one pot of 450 ml of emulsion: Add 45 ml of water (at approximately 72F/22C) into the sensitizer bottle. Close the cap and shake the bottle until all powder is dissolved. Add this solution to the pot containing 450 ml of emulsion and stir well. To sensitize one pot of 900 ml of emulsion: Add 90 ml of water into the sensitizer bottle. Close the cap and shake the bottle until all powder is dissolved. Add this solution to the pot containing 900 ml of emulsion and stir well. To sensitize one gallon (3440 ml) of emulsion: Add 170 ml of water into the sensitizer bottle. Close the cap and shake the bottle until all powder is dissolved. Add this solution to the pail containing 3440 ml of emulsion. Add another 170 ml of water to the emulsion and stir well. To sensitize 5 gallons (17.2 liters) of emulsion: Add 850 ml of water into the sensitizer bottle. Close the cap and shake the bottle until all powder is dissolved. Add this solution to the pail containing 17.2 liters of emulsion. Add another 850 ml of water to the emulsion and stir well. DIAZO D.A.D.: Cut the pouch open and add the contents directly into the emulsion. Stir well until all powder is dissolved. After stirring the emulsion, leave it resting for about two hours to eliminate air bubbles.

CAUTION: Read the MSDS before using the product. Risk phrases: R 36/37 Irritating to eyes and respiratory system. Safety phrases: S 22 Do not breathe dust. S 25 Avoid contact with eyes. S 26 In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.
