Operator safety All the switching operations are performed with closed medium-voltage compartment doors. There are mechanical and electrical interlocks which prevent malfunctioning. All of the medium voltage compartment doors are provided with blocking devices for the personnel safety, in the event of an arc fault occurring within this compartments. The respectively operation, test and isolating positions of the truck ensure the operator safety.
Security of the operations Switching ON/OF and earthing commands are executed from the cubicles front side. The status of the switching devices is monitoring by visual indicators included in the front mimic diagram and mechanical switch position indicators. All the actuating keys, control devices and electronic indicators are suitable mounted on the front doors both of medium voltage compartment and low voltage compartment.

A Truck compartment Located at front-bottom side of the switchgear. Contains a truck (in the withdrawable version) fitted with switching or measuring devices. There are mechanical and electrical interlocks between truck and switchgear which not allow wrong operations. The connecting and disconnecting operations are performed only in right sequence. In the case of service, the visible separation of live circuit (busbars) from outgoing bars (cables compartment) is made by drawing out of the truck.

A Truck compartment At the rear side of compartment there is a protective shutters system which isolate the contacts system (on the busbars and outgoing bars) for a safety service when the truck is draw-out. Under the shutters system is designed an inspection window for the earthing switch state control. Fitted with heating resistance and thermostat The truck has three distinctive positions: - work position (draw-in) - test position - draw - out position (out of cell) Pressure relief covers for arc fault protection.

The behaviour verifying tests in the event of arc fault are intended to ensure the safety of the operators. Arc fault tests are made according to IEC 60 298. The medium voltage switchgear CI type is designed and tested to withstand the arc fault. Arc faults withstand means: - No burn-through of gases partitions to adjacent compartments or operator area - Pressure resistance between adjacent compartments and panels - Restrict of a fault arc on live parts in adjacent compartments. The compartments are provided with pressure relief at the top side. Limited time of arc fault by opening of protective device (if is provided with opening release) because the pressure flaps are equipped with limit switches.
