Accommodation Information (Under 18) Parent/ Guardian Declaration

A. Students who will be 18 years old by 31st December of the year of entry to the University may apply for University accommodation. A variety of Hall accommodation is available ranging from rooms with shared bathroom facilities to rooms with en-suite, self-catered and catered options are also available. All Hall accommodation is either on Campus or within easy walking distance of campus, local shops, banks and social facilities. A room in Halls is guaranteed for students who firmly accept their offer of a place and submit their application for accommodation by 1 August for October entry. Students who will not be 18 years old by 31st December of the year of entry to the University, but who will subsequently become 18 years old in that academic session, will be considered for entry to University accommodation* on an individual basis. If the application is not successful then private accommodation plans will need to be made. Early application is encouraged to allow alternative arrangements to be made if your child is not offered a place in Hall. C. The University of Reading does not believe that Halls of Residence are suitable environments for those students who are not at least 17 years old. As such we do not permit applications for University accommodation from applicants who are under 17 years old. In such cases, parents/ guardians will need to make alternative arrangements for their childs accommodation in the UK. If this is the case then we require you to sign that you will arrange for your child to be placed in private accommodation for the duration of their studies.

If your child would be covered by statements B or C, please complete the following declaration: My child will be under 18 on 31 December of the year they enrol the University of Reading. I understand that the University cannot provide accommodation, or accept responsibility for providing accommodation, for my child and I undertake to arrange for my child to be placed in private accommodation and to live independently for the duration of their studies at the University of Reading.
