Dear Prof. Raju,
I am happy to note that the Department of Telugu is bringing out an
Information Booklet containing lists of M.Phil. dissertations and Ph.D. the-
ses produced from 1978 to 2011. It has academic information like the details
of courses, syllabi, national seminars held so far, tenure of previous Heads
inculding the retired faculty. I hope that this booklet gives a complete picture
about the growth of the Department and I have no doubt that this will be a
historical document of value.
I congratulate you for the efforts in bringing out this booklet which will
be useful to the students and researchers who pursue studies in Telugu.
With warm regards,
Yours sincerely,

School of Humanities
It is with immense pleasure that I welcome the publication
of this small information booklet brought out by the Department
of Telugu, School of Humanities. For a long time it has been a
felt need, particularly, in the field of Indian Languages for
systematic Handbooks, Bibliographies and Abstracts to be
published. Many years ago, Prof. S. Nagarajan initiated this
process in the Telugu department. Then the Department of Telugu
brought out Alokana a year-wise compilation of articles on Telugu
literature by different scholars in the country under the editorship
of Professor G.V.Subrahmanyam. Now the department has
brought out this booklet of M.Phil./Ph.D. dissertations done in
the Department of Telugu since 1978 when the first research
scholar was admitted into this department. This was a task earlier
attempted by Prof. R. Srihari, former Head, Telugu
Department. This booklet has information on the Department of
Telugu which is one of the oldest departments in our University,
having been established in 1985 after its earlier avatar as part of
the Centre for Regional Studies in the School of Social Sciences.
It also gives information on academic programmes of the
department, lists seminars organized and gives a directory of
the Heads of the Department and the former and current faculty.
Such a publication, I believe, will go a long way in giving visibility
to the work of the department. I commend it as an activity which
other departments in the School should take up. This information
Booklet will be a reference book for prospective research
scholars. I congratulate the Department of Telugu for its initiative.

Introduction:
The Department of Telugu in the School of Humanities,
one of the oldest departments of our University, has been
established in 1985 separating the subject Telugu from the
Centre of Regional Studies, School of Social Sciences.
Telugu as a subject was there in Centre of Regional studies

The main objective of the Department of Telugu is to
promote studies in Telugu Language and Literature. The
Department undertakes teaching and research in Telugu with
emphasis on various aspects of his torical and comparative
studies in language and literature. The syllabus for various
courses is drawn keeping in view of the changing needs of
the society in relation to language use, and the role of literature
in the society. An equal importance is also given for studies
in Classical literature and Sanskrit, along with interdisciplinary
approach.
The Department has so far produced 111 Ph.Ds. and
