These are perfect for gift giving or for beginners to practice their new skills.

Please note that I have not given row counts as I measure my work in cm not rows. If these washcloths are to be washed in hot (60) water, be prepared for 10% shrinkage in length. Knit an extra few rows to compensate for this. 3 stitch patterns that increase in difficulty. Tension does not matter in the finished product. Suggested tensions are given for reference only.

Washcloth A Garter stitch

Tension: 18 st to 10cm. 4.5mm needles Cast on 40 stitches. Knit every row till washcloth looks square. Cast off. Weave in ends.

Washcloth B Moss stitch

Tension: 17 st to 10 cm. 4.5mm needles Cast on 40 stitches. Row 1: k1 p1 till end. Row 2: p1 k1 till end. Cast off in pattern. Weave in ends.

Washcloth C Eiffel Tower washcloth

Tension: 21 st to 10 cm. 4.5mm needles. Cast on 43 stitches. Knit in garter stich for 6 rows. With garter stitch for the first 3 stitches on either side, Row 1 (RS): K3 p4 * yrn p2tog p2; rep from * to last 4 st, p1 k3. Row 2 (WS): K7 *p1 k3; Rep from * to last 4 st, k4. Row 3 (RS): K3 p4 *k1 p3; rep from * to last 4 st, p1 k3. Rep these last 2 rows twice more. Row 8 (WS): Knit across all stitches. Row 9 (RS): K3 p2 *yrn, p2tog p2; rep from * to last 6 st, yrn p2tog p1 k3. Row 10 (WS): K5 *p1 k3; rep from * to last 6 st, p1 k5. Row 11 (RS): K3 p2 *k1 p3; rep from * to last 6 st, k1 p2 k3. Rep the last 2 rows twice more. Row 16 (WS): Knit across all stitches. Rep these 16 rows until washcloth looks square. End pattern on Row 8 or Row 16. Knit 6 rows garter stitch. Cast off. Weave in ends.

Hot wash all washcloths in 60C water to deepen colours and soften the cotton. Tumble dry on dryer until almost dry, remove and pin to shape on flat surface. Let dry Fully (this could take 24 hours). I wrap my present by folding the washcloths into quarters and adding a piece of Organic soap or a Lavender sachet. I tie the bundle with the remaining yarn twisted together or braided.
