THROUGH THE YEARS (C) 2012 MARK ANDRE YAPCHING

BLACK, then fades to a WIDE SHOT. EXT. OUTSIDE A PIZZA PARLOR YOUNG MAN, aged about 28 years old, sits on a table. His laptop is open on the table beside him. The man is busy typing away at it. A box of pizza is also open, with a can of COKE. His name is JONAS. CLOSE UP behind JONAS, short distance, someone UP on newcomer, another offscreen at JONAS, then Newcomer is ALEX. REPEAT PREVIOUS CLOSE-UP. This time, ALEX is seen approaching JONAS. View shifts to JONAS. ALEX: (off-screen) Bai, JONAS? Ikaw na bai? JONAS looks up, then recognizes ALEX. ALEX remains offscreen. JONAS: Oi, bai, ALEX! Ali bai, lingkod bai! SHOT now shows ALEX, who stands in front of JONAS. JONAS gestures to him to sit beside him. ALEX nods and sits, and steals a peek at JONAS laptop. JONAS: Dugaya na nato diay Kamusta naman ka? wala magkita bai sa? with his laptop screen visible. At a is approaching the pizza parlor. CLOSE young man, same age as JONAS. He looks his face shows recognition of JONAS.

ALEX: Aw, bitaw bai, sukad pa tingali to pag college. Mga tulo na ka tuig sa? Murag busy naman ka sigeg trabaho bai, laptop2x naman. JONAS chuckles, and continues tapping at his laptop. JONAS:

Ah, gamay ra ni bai. Dili ko busy oi, naa ra ko gitan-aw diri sa Internet. Negosyo kunuhay ba. He turns his head towards the box of pizza. JONAS: Basin ganahan ka mukaon pizza bai? Ako ra isa gatabang ana, ayg kauwaw. Close shot on ALEX. He is laughing and scratching his head. He wants to take the pizza but he is shy to do so. He grins as he shakes his head. ALEX: Ay, mauwaw ko nimo, bai Alex oi! Murag di naman gani ka ma reach diha oh. Negosyo2x naman sa Internet. WIDE SHOT ON BOTH. JONAS takes time off his laptop and attempts a MOCK PUNCH on ALEX. JONAS: Uwaw2x, sukmagon tika ron! Di ka kamao mauwaw oi, kahinumdum ka pag high school na baga kaayo kag kabuang? Kaon diha! ALEX laughs, and takes a slice of pizza. JONAS turns around, spots a waiter, and gestures for an extra can of COKE. He looks at the laptop, taps a few keys, and then closes it. He looks at ALEX, who is spreading hot sauce on top of the pizza. JONAS: Nya, bai ALEX, kamusta naman ka? Asa naman ka trabaho? JONAS grabs another slice of pizza and takes a bite as ALEX takes a bite before he speaks. ALEX: Na, mutuo kag sa dili bai, gipit gyud ko ron. Bag-o ra ko na lay-off sa trabaho, nya unsaon nalang ni ako pamilya. Gikan bitaw ko pang-apply didto ah! Pero wala gyud, huwat lang ko ug lain.

WAITER arrives before JONAS is able to speak with the extra can of COKE. He pays the waiter, who then leaves. ALEX: Ayy, maikog man sad ta nimo bai JONAS da... JONAS: Ayg sigeg inamaw anang ikog2x gud, panagsa ra ni. Besides, karon pa raba ta nagkita. Nya bai, unsa hitabo na na lay-off ka? Minyo na diay ka? Taya, wa gyud koy balita nimo da. CLOSE UP on ALEX. ALEX shakes his head sadly. ALEX: Mao lagi ni nakabati, bai. Tsk. Pulitika sa opisina. Dako2x na unta kog ranggo, nya nisukol man kos management laban ko sa mga tao nako kaniadto. JONAS takes a emphatically. drink of his COKE, and shakes his head

ALEX: (o/s) Pag tinangtangay, ako gyud giinitan. JONAS: Paeta ana bai da... pero ayaw sa na hunahuna-a sa karon bai. Istorya sa tag nindot kay panagsa ra gud ta kita. Hahaha! Kaon pa bai. WIDE SHOT. Both of them laugh. ALEX swallows the last of his pizza and reaches for another slice. ALEX: Bai, murag dakoa na gyud ug nausab nimo da. Sang una mura raman kag wala sukad high school og asta pag college nimo. Karon, oh... ALEX points to the laptop. ALEX:

JONAS laughs. He quiets down, laughs and starts shaking his head. JONAS: Ala gyud bitaw koy alamag unsa ako buhaton ato kaniadto. Sa atong duha, ikaw may murag leader2x gyud, ikaw may kamao unsay buhaton perme. Karon ra gyud ko nakasabot na negosyo gyud diay akong tirada. ALEX laughs too. He takes a bite of his pizza as JONAS watches him. ALEX: Askang buanga bitaw ato sang una sa? Tanan kabuang siguro, akoy gauna2x... JONAS: Lage, pero kinsa man sad ang kamao pod? Ikaw raman sad, unsa ra gud tawn mi... Pero dako sad mi pasalamatan nimo bai oi! CLOSE SHOT on ALEX. He waves his hand dismissively. ALEX: Ay, sus... Ayaw gud mo ana gud. Unsa ra tong sang una oi... ang karon lagi ato hunahunaon! JONAS: Di man sad bai, dugay na baya ta wa magkita so maka huna-huna sad tas kabuang nato sang una. Kahinumdum ka ato imo gisungkit ang brief sa pari? ALEX: Giatay ato bai sa? Unsa kaha tong kabuanga na nanungkit man tag brief sa atong prinsipal nya gitago ang brief sa aparador sa atong classroom! Both men laugh. Then ALEX falls silent. JONAS:

O ngano man na bai ALEX? Nalingaw na tag katawa ngari kalit lang sad kag kahilom. ALEX shakes his head woefully. ALEX: Ay da, kahinumdum lang ko unsa ka alegre sang una gud. Mura lang tag way problema, ang ato lang gyud makagraduate lang tas eskwelahan payts na! Karon, lami nuon balik ato panahona da. CLOSE SHOT on JONAS. JONAS: Na, naa nasad ni siya aie. Unya ra na bai, maabot ra lagi ta ana istoryaha. Karon lingaw2x sa ta... WIDE SHOT. Alex shakes his head. He takes a swig of his COKE can and continues talking. ALEX: Di ni madala ug lingaw2x lang bai, JONAS, oi. Duha na akong anak nya wa koy trabaho. Anogon kaayo to akong trabaho oi dako2x na ko ranggo dako2x na sad ako sweldo. JONAS: Kana, bai, lisod2x gyud tinuod na pero unsaon man nimo pagsulbad ana if sige lang ka problema? Sa karon, enjoy sa ta duha gud bisan karon lang adlawa ba! Kaon pa, order sa ko. ALEX: Bai, salamat gyud bitaw kaayo. JONAS: Sus, ayaw ikog2x diha daghan baya tag kaagi pod sukad high school. Unsa pod ni siya oi. CLOSE SHOT on JONAS. He signals to waiter off-screen. WAITER arrives. WAITER: Unsay ato sir?

JONAS: Kani lang gihapon, isa ka box, 14 inch lang bai. Salamat. WAITER leaves. JONAS turns back to ALEX. JONAS: Sige bai... unsa man imo karaan trabaho ba? Dako2x na jud diay ta to imo ranggo didto? CLOSE SHOT ON ALEX. ALEX nods, expresses his disappointment. and purses his lips as he

ALEX: Mao lagi bai. Supervisor na unta ko sa marketing! Nya nagkasumpaki ako mga tao ug mga tao sa management kay tungod sa ila benepisyo. Adto man ko nilaban nila, akoy nainitan. Tsk, nagmahay hinuon ko ato da. CLOSE SHOT on JONAS. JONAS looks at ALEX thoughtfully. JONAS: Mao ba bai? Amawa... pero ayaw pagmahay bai oi. Sus, gilabanan gud nimo imo mga tao. Dako na keu nang tabang! CLOSE SHOT on ALEX. JONAS: [o/s, v.o] Kesa naman wala sila benepisyo di ba? ALEX bites his lips as he listens to JONAS. He seems angry, but its just a result of his frustration and his pressure to find a job. He is not angry at JONAS. ALEX: Sus bai! Kasayon lang gyud isulti ana... sila naay benepisyo, pero karon ako nawagtangan ug trabaho... maynta makaon na nako ilang benepisyo hahay... ALEX reaches for another slice of pizza, the last one on the box. He looks at the box and turns to JONAS. ALEX:

Bai, murag nahurot na gyud. Human ani lakaw na ko bai ha, murag naikog ko nimo da. Ikaw ray galibre nako... CLOSE SHOT on JONAS. JONAS laughs heartily. He pats ALEX on the arm. JONAS: Ay sus baya ni... Kita kag niorder ko? Pakan-on nasad ko nimo ako ra isa? Hehehe. Ayaw sa bai, istorya sa ta. CLOSE SHOT on ALEX. ALEX nods, and smiles. He eyes JONAS closely, the same tone that reeks of frustration in his voice. ALEX: Ayaw lag kalain bai ha... murag kabantay ko nimo sukad sang una mura man ka ala problema. Murag alegre ra perme imong kinabuhi ba. CLOSE SHOT on JONAS. He looks uncomfortable at the comment. But he smiles anyway. JONAS: Dili sad ana, bai ALEX oi. Naa sad tawn ko problema oi... di lang gyud nako ipaklaro kay di man ko hilig mupilit ug hunahuna sa ako problema... Naa ra man nay sulbad maabot ba, chillax lang ta. ALEX: [o/s] AMBOOOT lang bai! CLOSE SHOT on ALEX. He exhales in frustration, and slaps his forehead. He sits back. ALEX: Murag di gyud na muobra sa akoa nang ingon ana da... labi na gyud ron sus! Sang una kiat2x lang ko ato pahungaw ako problema pamilya pero kita kag naningkamot ko makahuman ug eskwela? ALEX leans forward and puts his hands on his face. After a second, he exhales again and sits back.

ALEX: Mao na sang una makatabang ko ninyo sa inyo mga project bisan sige lang ko ligoy! Tago2x ra to nako ang ligoy2x sa ako pressure sa balay! Pero karon di na ni madala kay wa nakoy daganan... mauwaw ko muduol sa ako mga ginikanan. Wa koy madaganan na bai, nya unsaon nalang pagkaon sa ako mga anak. WIDE SHOT. A moment of silence between the two. JONAS looks at ALEX, while ALEX looks absent-mindedly at the now-empty box of pizza. CLOSE SHOT on JONAS. He chuckles softly then pats the silent and frustrated ALEX on the shoulder. JONAS: Suma sa ako giingon nimo bai... naa nay solbad imo problema... Kalma lang, mao gani ingon ko istorya sa ta. ALEX nods slowly, but he remains staring at the empty pizza box. JONAS: (o/s) Basin naa tay mahibaw-an na solution. ALEX: Bitaw bai, pasensiya na gyud kaayo giduol ra tika para himuon ug pahungawan sa problema da... Wa lang ko kapugong gud. CLOSE SHOT on JONAS. He chuckles, but with respect. He pats ALEX on the arm again, this time a bit forcefully the way people do with others with whom theyve been friends for a long time do. JONAS: Dong, wa kay angay bugalbugalon nimong dako Chillax! mag sang drama. Ka unang dako!

ALEX gives JONAS a mock punch. He laughs, but it feels a bit strained. ALEX:

Another moment of silence. JONAS looks at ALEX for a moment. ALEX: Oh, ngano man ka bai? Ikaw naman say kalit ug serious. JONAS smiles. Then he shakes his head and reaches into his back pocket for his wallet. ALEX puts out a hand to stop him. ALEX: Bai, ayaw ana. Maikog ta ana. Di ko kabayad ana if pautangon ko nimo. JONAS laughs again. He shakes his head, still grinning as he opens his wallet and rummages for something. JONAS: Sobra pa nis utang bai! Ingon sila, Teach a man how to fish, and you feed him a lifetime. Aw unsa ba... mao ba na... Ah, dira! CLOSE UP on JONAS wallet. He reaches in and pulls out a card. SHOT from behind JONAS as he gives the card to ALEX. ALEX accepts the card, looks at it, and his eyes go wide. He stares at the card then at JONAS. CLOSE SHOT on card. It says: JONAS AYCARDO, Chief Executive Officer, AYCARDO CONSTRUCTION LTD. CLOSE SHOT on JONAS. JONAS smiles, and nods. JONAS: Lunes man ta karon, tawagi ang HR number nga naa ana nga card karon Miyerkules. Ugma hapon tagaan tika ug recommendation. Kulang sad mi ug supervisor karon na muhandle sa amo client relations kay manghawaay na. Marketing amo kailangan, pero murag makaya ra nimo kay nakadala man kag mga tao unya tudluan man sad ka atong manghawaay na. CLOSE SHOT on ALEX, who looks incredulous but happy. He nods, urgently. Dramatic music plays.

ALEX: Sus bai, dakoa gyud nakog pasalamatan gyud nimo ani! CLOSE SHOT on JONAS. He smiles and nods. Then he shakes his head. He is smiling as he remembers the good things that ALEX had done for them in the past. JONAS: Dili bai... ako maoy dako ug pasalamatan nimo kay if di pa nimo sang una, di gyud ko kagraduate ug di ko kaabot ani. Balos lang ni nako nimo bai, ALEX. WIDE SHOT. Both men laugh. Then WAITER arrives with the box of pizza that they ordered. WAITER: Sir, imo order... 14-inch 300 pesos tanan, sir. Hawaiian pizza. into his

JONAS looks at ALEX, then he grins as he reaches wallet. He gives a wad of bills to the waiter. JONAS: Naa man moy beer diri bai sa?

WAITER: Oo, sir. Below zero pa gani. Unsa man inyo, San Mig Light o Red Horse? ALEX: [o/s] Red Horse lang bai mao nay paborito ni bai JONAS! Hahaha! WAITER looks grinning. at ALEX offscreen, then at JONAS. JONAS nods,

JONAS: Sige, isa ka set nga Red Horse nang sobra bai.

WAITER nods and moves off screen. JONAS watches him, then gives ALEX (still offscreen) a high five. JONAS: Red Horse gyud? Paskang palahuboga jud nimo gihapon bai sa? CLOSE SHOT on ALEX, who shakes his head and grins. ALEX: Sige lang gud bai, Hilom2x lang ka da. ka.... karon ra bitaw Gahi naman diay ni. keu

WIDE SHOT. Both men laugh, and then start digging into the pizza as the screen fades to black. TEXT DEDICATED TO THE FRIENDS OF THE CAST AND CREW appears, then fades out after 5 seconds. Credits roll with background music.
