Language Use Having something to say, and knowing when, where and how to say it is the strongest factor that determines our attitude towards life. This linguistic skill gives us the passion, courage of conviction and strong sense of self that allows us to walk our ways in the unforgiving realms of this environment and not forget who we originally are. In a wider perspective, language plays a pivotal role in our daily lives. Language is intimately tied to mans feelings and activity. It is bound up with nationality, religion, and the feeling of self. Be he a beggar or banker, savage or civilized, teacher or learner, everyone uses language in almost every single moment of his life. In the classroom setup, language is used as a medium for the transfer of learning. Without it, the teacher would not have a means to deliver his lessons. Without it, students would not have a means to make clarifications on matters that they do not fully understand. Without it, education will not be possible. The question as to how language is employed to facilitate the transfer of learning has been an on-going issue. What kind of language is to be used, in what situations are these appropriate, and what percentages does each interlocutor take to use that language in a particular linguistic situation, are but few of the many things that could be dealt upon through observation for an analysis, these being the most naturally occurring phenomena. The degree up to which each interlocutor makes use of the language in a given language situation to express himself is the very subject of this observation. It is a record of the studentteacher interaction in the Eng 100 Basic English Class of the observer. This observation tries to elaborate the extent up to which the student and the teacher maximizes the use of language to make learning possible and, to a certain extent, faster and more productive.
