Anticipatory Set: We previously learned about the early people of the Aegean (Minoans and Mycenae) Today we will explore the Greeks we are more familiar with and why they chose to govern using city states. Benchmark: F2.d Explain features of the Classical Mediterranean, F4 Locations and causes of interactions and conflicts between groups in classical China, the Mediterranean, and south Asia prior to 300 C.E Behavioral Objective: Students will analyze, compare and contrast the concept of bread and circuses in Roman times to Modern American society in essay format. Anticipatory Set: Yesterday we finished with talking about Bread and Circuses. Today you are to think of how this can apply to our modern society. Can anyone give me an example of a bread issue? Bread and Circuses Rubric You are to write an analytical essay on the topic of Bread and Circuses. In other words, you need to first understand what bread and circuses refers to in Roman times. You then need to apply that concept to our modern times and find examples of each. Then compare and contrast our society to that of the Romans. You must answer this question Does the United States pursue a policy of bread and circuses? You must include the following: 1. Define what bread and circuses refers to. -10 points 2. Take a stand and give examples to back your argument up 15 points a. That means show me examples of what things in our culture are or are not bread and circuses 3. 2 pages minimum. That means words start on the third page!- 10 points 4. Typed , 12pt Times New Roman Font, 1-inch margins, double spaced- 5 points

Behavioral Objective: Students will analyze and decide which factors most contributed to the decline of the Roman Empire and demonstrate this by choice of argumentative essay, causal timeline, or graphic illustration. Anticipatory Set: Yesterday we examined four possible reasons for the decline of the Roman Empire. Who can tell me one of those reasons and give supporting evidence it? Input: a. Task Analysis i. The Fall of Rome Project You must decide for yourself which factors contributed the most to the decline of the Roman Empire and then show me. You have a choice in how you want to do this. Your options are: 1. A short essay similar to the one you wrote on bread and circuses 2. An illustration aka picture/poster 3. A timeline that shows cause and effect If you choose the essay you will be graded on the following 5. State the main reasons Rome declined -10 points 6.
