LEARNING MATERIALS

Chemical Bonding
Chemical compounds are formed by the joining of two or more atoms. A stable compound occurs when the total energy of the combination has lower energy than the separated atoms.

Ionic Bonds
In chemical bonds, atoms can either transfer or share their valence electrons. In the extreme case where one or more atoms lose electrons and other atoms gain them in order to produce a noble gas electron configuration, the bond is called an ionic bond. Typical of ionic bonds are those in the alkali halides such as sodium chloride, NaCl.

IV. LEARNING METHOD Learning Approach : Constructivism Learning Model/Method : Cooperative learning model with think-pair share ( TPS ) and discussion method. V. LEARNING ACTIVITIES No Learning Activities Time A. Early Activities a. Apperception Apperception how the element must bond each other to reach the stable condition b. Orientation Telling the learning goal in this subject material and telling the application of 5 minutes think pair share method in the material of chemical bonds c. Motivation Giving a motivation to students, for example is telling the advantages of learning the chemical bonds material in the future life. B. Main Activities 1 Exploration: explain the stability of noble gases by electron configuration Identify elements that can release or receiving valence electrons to achieve stability or resembling the noble gas electron configuration. Describe the arrangement of valence electrons noble gas atom (duplet and octet) with the arrangement of valence electrons instead of the noble gas atom and its relationship with element stability 10 minutes Given examples of elements which readily releases its valence electrons to form a positive ion and example elements that readily accept electrons from the valence ions of other elements to form negative element. Illustrates the process of ionic bonding, such as men (positive charge) and female (negative charge) are attracted to form an ionic bond of marriage (a sense of intending to know) Give examples of ionic compounds in

daily life, such as table salt (NaCl) and so on. Elaboration : Make the students in some group then give each group with a paper of question then ask the groups to discuss for solving the problem on paper about ionic bonds Confirmation Teacher with the students examining the right answer of each question and give achievement to the group which is answer the question fast and exactly Final Activities a. Students is directed by the teacher to conclude case of ionic bonds formation. b. Teacher gives homework to solve the problem of competence test in Chemistry for Senior High School book from Unggul Sudarmo in the page of 81-82 no. 20-30. c. VI. LEARNING SOURCES, TOOLS and MATERIALS A. Learning Sources Sudarmo, Unggul. 2004. Kimia untuk SMA Kelas XI. Jakarta : Erlangga Team of MGMP Surakarta. 2011. LKS Kimia SMA Semester 1. Surakarta : Tiga Serangkai B. Tools and Materials Power point of chemical bonds material, LCD projector, whiteboard, boardmarker, HVS paper VII. EVALUATION A. Cognitive Evaluation ( Evaluation Sheet 1 EV1 ) B. Affective Evaluation ( Evaluation Sheet 2 EV2 )

COGNITIVE EVALUATION ( EV 2 ) Indicator of the question : Student can explain the formation of ionic bonding from many elements : Type of question Number of question C2 1 C2 2 Question : 1. Show the formation of ionic bonding in MgO compound! 2. Show the formation of ionic bonding in MgCl2 compound!

Answer : 1. Mg = 2,8,2 ( lose 2 electrons ) O = 2,6 ( gain 2 electron ) The lewis structure is :

2. Mg = 2,8,2 ( lose 2 electron ) Cl = 2,8,7 ( gain 1 electron ) Mg Mg2+ +2e- x1 Cl + 1e Clx2 Mg+Cl MgCl2

AFFECTIVE EVALUATION ( EV 3 ) The evaluation of students motivation with questionnaire : No 1 2 Statement The learning material in this day is very interesting I can relate this subject material with something that was I hear, listen and see in my daily life 3 At the first teacher give this matter I am sure that I can understand it quickly, it is an easy case 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Solving the problem in this matter make me satisfied In this learning activity I feel my curiosity was raise in well I was learn something interesting and no guess before The learning material will very advantageous for me A very nice activity to learn something planned learning I always interesting to doing my homework I never late to coming class when theres chemistry lesson 1 1 2 2 Score 3 3 4 4 5 5

1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1

2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2

3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3
