Fabric Watch!
For Winter 2006/07 we observe several directions in fabric development for apparel. The looks concentrate on three distinct looks, which can be defined as obscuring, magnifying and elaborating. From a design standpoint fabric becomes a key focus for next season. While clothing shapes return in simplicity the colors and materials used will help define the newness and interest. We continue to see the mixture of natural mixed with technical both in fiber development and in construction. There will be a return to using heavier weight woolens, brushed finishes and double layered knitwear. In addition there is an influence from old master paintings and haute couture for a more opulent and fantasy approach utilizing ornamented details. Be on the look for: Creased shrunken leather Washed velvet Wool velour Double layered pointelle knits Fake horse, cat and lamb fur Cashmere mixed with alpaca for brocades Coarse weight cotton twill Rigid finishing treatments of coal dusting, waxing or oiling Crunchy silks and springy crepes Multi layered voile and chiffon

The Colors
While the last few seasons have been a lavish display of color the news for Winter 2006/07 is that color is now taking on a different appearance. Still one of the most essential ingredients in fashion the color palettes seen at Premier Vision focused on the importance of using color in a more tempered manner. Combinations will be more thoughtful and less opulent and tone on tone monochromes will make a comeback. The touch phrases for next season are to: Keep it simple Keep it uncomplicated Make it interesting not distracting Consider the flow of deliveries at retail AND Rethink the balance between single, binary and multi-color usage

Europe at Retail!
For fall 2005 fashion in Europe was anything but uniformed or conventional. From a color standpoint there was a definite softening of the palettes and there was much more emphasis paid to solids, monochromes or simple multi-color application. The clashing combinations from past seasons were virtually absent and when bright shades were used in multiple mixtures they were almost always balanced with neutrals or darks. From a styling standpoint both London and Paris boasted an approach of wear what you want. There were no rules and the choices were abundant. The looks ranged from Victorian to disco and gave everyone a choice to create their own identity. For woman attention was paid to femininity. Even when the look was tailored or bohemian it still focused on female womanliness. For men the same attitude prevailed and focused on a masculine approach to sexy fashion. The colors for woman were an interesting mix of autumnal darks with brilliant jewel tones and brighter colors were used for accents in patterns and accessories. Purples reigned supreme as the newest way to approach traditional blues. FOR WOMEN: Dark saturated colors were seen at every price point and were used in all classifications of apparel and accessories. PANTONE 19-5708 Jet Set PANTONE 19-1116 Carafe PANTONE 19-4024 Dress Blues PANTONE 19-0419 Rifle Green PANTONE 16-0836 Rich Gold The color purple reigned supreme as a leader for sumptuous fabrics in ladylike clothing for both sportswear and eveningwear. PANTONE 19-3022 Gloxinia PANTONE 19-3620 Purple Reign PANTONE 19-3830 Astral Aura PANTONE 19-3950 Dee Ultramarine Bright jewel tones were the shades that pulled everything together and were most often used in accessories, knitwear, active and footwear. FOR MEN: For men like in womenswear color took a sober turn and was seen returning to a more temperate attitude. There was an abundance of monochrome combinations and tone on tone pairing seen in tailored clothing, shirts and fine gauge knitwear whereas bright color was used as accents for patterns, stripes, cold weather accessories and sweaters. Dark shades had a camouflaged effect so you had to look closely to see what color it actually was. PANTONE 19-4007 Anthracite PANTONE 18-5203 Pewter PANTONE 19-1118 Chestnut PANTONE 19-3915 Graystone PANTONE 19-0415 Duffle Bag While purples were readily seen for woman the versions for men were hybrid shades of red and blue that had a dusted flat appearance.
