Modals that express mistakes, missed opportunities or regret

COULD HAVE In other words: I had the ability to do something, but I didnt do it. Example: We could have gone to Merzouga last weekend (but instead we went to Oujda).

COULDNT HAVE In other words: I didnt have the ability to do, so I didnt do it. Example: I couldnt have gone to Merzouga this weekend (because we had to study for the exam).

SHOULD HAVE In other words: It was a good idea, but I didnt do it. Example: I should have bought some bottled water before the hurricane (but I didnt).

SHOULDNT HAVE In other words: It was a bad idea, but I did it anyway. Example: I shouldnt have stolen that watch from you. (It was a mistake that I regret).

MIGHT HAVE In other words: It was possible, but it didnt happen. Example: I might have put gas in the car before driving to Rabat (but I didnt).
