English is an interesting language. It is not difficult for anyone to master it if the subject is made interesting to the learner.

There are several ways to improve the standard of English in schools and the English Language Society can play an active role in encouraging the usage of English among students. For instance, the English Language Society can organise spelling competitions among students of each form. The best student form each form will get a prize but it must be something that can be shared with the rest of the class. This is to encourage teamwork. Language games and inter-class debates can also be organised. Another way to improve the students command of the language would be to screen English movies. There are many good classic movies which are worth watching such as My Fair Lady, The King and I and Mary Poppins. A Speak English Day will also be helpful. On this day, students should be encouraged to converse only in English. Lastly, English is closely linked to reading. So all students are encouraged to read more improve in the language. A Book Review competition can be held for the purpose. The class whose students submit the highest number if book review will be the winner. By taking the above-mentioned steps, the standard of English in schools will surely improve.
