HITLERS BELIEFS
Hitler believed that there were groups within society who led to the downfall of Germany. Groups included:
Homosexuals Homeless and Poor Jewish Citizens Communists

CONTEXT THE TREATY OF VERSAILLES


As a result of their loss in World War I, Germany was forced to accept responsibility for the war. Allied countries imposed restrictions on Germany such as giving up territory and paying reparations ($31,400,000).

CONTEXT THE GREAT DEPRESSION (19291930s)


Worldwide economic crisis started by the crash of the stock market. Germany was heavily effected because of the restrictions from the Treaty of Versailles.

Politician who promised to return Germany to greatness - Hitler had fought during World War I. Hitler believed that Jewish citizens, among others, were to blame for Germanys decline.

Due to his popularity and the promise of better conditions, Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany on January 30, 1933.

WHAT IS THE HOLOCAUST?


TERM Holocaust MEANING In Greek, the word Holocaust comes from two words Holos meaning whole and kaustos meaning burnt.

Final Solution

Hebrew word meaning calamity or catastrophe.


Term used by the Nazi Party wanted a final solution to the Jewish Problem.

LAWS AND REGULATIONS NUREMBERG LAWS


Nazi Party created the Nuremberg Race Laws laws removed basic rights from anyone who was determined to be un-German. Laws resulted in legal persecution and intolerance towards Jewish people Jews were forbidden from marrying Germans and from displaying the national flag.

LAWS AND REGULATIONS PERSECUTING THE JEWISH PEOPLES


Beginning when Hitler took power in 1933, there had been many laws passed to create legal racism towards Jewish people. Jews were forbidden from:
Owning land, Being teachers, Getting legal qualifications, Having health insurance.

oNazis required all Jews to: oRegister their wealth and property. oRegister their businesses.

All Jewish citizens within Germancontrolled areas were ordered to wear a Yellow-Star of David to identify themselves.

Ghettos were created in cities such as Warsaw and Lodz (Poland). Entire sections of the city had walls built around them Jewish citizens were subject to curfews and forced labor.

CONCENTRATION CAMPS
Concentration Camps were large labor camps created by the Nazis throughout Germanoccupied Europe. Jewish citizens were taken from their homes and sent to work in the camps.

CONCENTRATION CAMPS
Some concentration camps were designated as Death Camps thousands of Jewish inmates were killed each day by:
Poisonous gas, Execution, Disease, Exhaustion from work, Malnutrition.
