Course Companion for Adobe Captivate (ACCC) provides content creators with insights that help understandthelearnersresponsetocoursecontent.ACCCallowscontentcreatorstoinstantlymeasure andvisualizelearnerengagementwiththelearningcontent.

CourseCompanionforAdobeCaptivatecomponentsandworkflow
ACCCWidget:ThecomponentinsertedintoAdobeCaptivateprojectsbytheauthor.TheACCCwidget collectsandsendsinformationaboutthelearnersinteractionstotheACCCserver. ACCCServer:Thebackendcomponentthattracksthelearners'interactionsandgeneratesreports.This serveriscurrentlyhostedontheAdobenetwork. ACCCDashboard:Theuserinterfacethatdisplaysrealtimelearneranalysisreportstoauthorsand peopletheyhaveauthorized. Note:Currently,acourseisequivalenttoamoduleinCourseCompanionforAdobeCaptivate,andthese termsareusedinterchangeablyinthisdocument.

Workflow
1. AuthorsinserttheACCCWidgetintotheirAdobeCaptivatecourses,andhostthepublished SWFoutputfilesonawebserver. 2. AuthorslogontotheACCCDashboardandspecifypreferencesforinterpretinglearners interactionsforamodule. 3. Whenelearnersgothroughthecourses,theACCCWidgetseamlesslycollectsstatisticsoftheir interactionswiththecourse,andsendsthedatatotheACCCServer. 4. TheACCCServerparsesandstoresdatabasedonpreferencessetbytheauthor.Thedata collectedisofthreetypes: Metadataaboutthecontentsofthecoursesuchasslidecount,slideduration,andmedia type. Learnerrelateddatacollectedduringthelearnersprogressthroughthecourse.For example,thetotalnumberoflearners,andtheslidewheretheydroppedoutofthecourse.

Databasedonpreferences,andcriteriaforthereportsdefinedbytheauthor.Forexample, thenumberofusersthatcompletedthecourse.

InsertingtheACCCwidgetinAdobeCaptivateprojects
1. DownloadtheALS.zipfilefromtheAdobeLabssite. 2. Unzipthefolder. 3. OpenyourAdobeCaptivateproject. 4. ClickthefirstslideoftheprojectintheFilmstrip. 5. ClickInsert>Widget. 6. BrowsetothelocationwhereyouhaveunzippedALS.zip,andopenLAWidget.swf. 7. ProvideyourAdobeIDcredentials,andclickLogin.IfyoudonothaveanAdobeID,clickSignUp tocreateanAdobeID.Theaccountcreationisquickandfreeofchargetoallusers. 8. RegisterthecoursewiththeACCCServerbyprovidingthefollowingdetails: ServerURL:TheURLoftheACCCServer.ThisfieldiscurrentlyprefilledtopointtotheACCC ServerhostedontheAdobenetwork. ModuleID:AnautogeneratedIDforthecourse.Informationinthisfieldappearsautomatically afteryouclickRegister. Version:Theversionofthemodule.Youcanassignanyalphanumericvalueastheversion number. Forexample,ifthisisthefirstversionofthemoduleforwhichyouareenablingtracking,you cancallitV1.Afteranalyzingthereportsandmodifyingthemodule,changetheversionnumber tosayV2,andaddthecoursetothedashboard. ThemodulenamesaresuffixedwiththeirversionnumberanddisplayedontheDashboard. Versioningyourmoduleshelpsyoutrackalltheversionsofthecourse. Description:Thedescriptionofthecourse. 9. ClickRegister. 10. ClickOKwhenamessageappearsindicatingthattheregistrationissuccessful. Thewidgetappearsontheslide.Resizeitasrequiredandplaceitanywhereontheslide. 11. InthePropertyInspector,changethetimingofthewidgettoRestofProject. Note:Thiswidgetisnotvisibletoyouruserswhentheyruntheoutputoftheproject. Whenyoucompletetheauthoringofcontent,publishtheAdobeCaptivateprojectasaSWFfile.Host theSWFfilealongwiththeHTMandJavaScriptsupportfoldersonawebserver.Youcanfindthe supportfoldersintheoutputfolderwhereyoupublishedtheSWFfile.

Creatinganupdatedversionofthemodulesorcourses
Aftermakingchangestothecoursesbasedontheanalysesofreports,youarereadytoloadanupdated versionofthemodule. DoubleclicktheACCCWidgetintheopenAdobeCaptivateproject.TheWidgetPropertiesdialogbox appears.LoginwithyourAdobeIDcredentialsandeditthepropertiesofthewidget. YoucanedittheACCCServerURLassociatedwiththewidget,andtheversionnumber,andthe descriptionofthemodulethatcontainsthewidget.ClickRegistertoregisterthenewversionofthe course. Note:WhenyouclickRegister,anewmoduleIDisgeneratedforthenewversionyoucreated.Afteryou loadthecoursetotheDashboard,thisversionisdisplayedasaseparatemodulewiththecorresponding statistics.

WhenlearnersgothroughanelearningmodulewiththeACCCWidget,thestatisticsonthelearner interactionsarepostedtotheACCCServerautomatically.. SettingpreferencesforelearningcoursesontheDashboard 1. LogontotheACCCdashboard. 2. ClickPreferencesandspecifythefollowing: (Optional)KeyslidesandEndslides

(Optional)ThumbsUpCriteria.Dependingonthesecriteria,thethumbsupsignisdisplayed againstthemoduleontheDashboard Completioncriteria.Thecompletioncriteriacanbethequizscoreorthekeyslides. Theendslidecriterionisamust.Theauthorcanchooseamongtheremainingtwocriteria indashboardpreferences.Eachoftheabovecriteriaisassignedequalweightinthefinal score.Forexample,ifboththecriteriaareselected,thenbymeetingoneofthecriteria,a learnergetsascoreof33%.
