Alanis Latino Studies 4/9/12 Black in Dominican Republic In the course of this documentary, Dominicans went through a long road of racial identity. They're origins they claimed they come from is Spain. Yes we can agree with that but Spain does not contribute to the racial mixing in Dominican Republic. We learned Dominicans have African descent from the slaves imported from the mother land of the various African countries. Dominicans have trouble definition themselves due to their various colors of hue and some beliefs. They do not have any indigenes population; it's just made up of purely mixers of slaves, Spanish, and other island immigrants. That being said, I believe that what the trouble is coming from the conformation of supreme identity crisis. When Trujillo came to power, that's where the racial conflict start to kick off. He believes that Dominicans were a white race as their ancestors from Spain. Because of Trujillos beliefs, Dominicans begin to exemplify their black ancestry and embrace only their Spaniard descent. Even today with Trujillo gone, that influence still has an effect on the current society today. Some Dominicans will try to pull of not having African Ancestry. The chances of that happening are very slim because that would me that your family would have to directly come through Spain or any other Anglo country directly to the island. Dominicans seem not to like the Haitians for reasons of them taking their jobs and being inferior due to them not having any Spanish descent. However, despite the French being the founders of Haiti, Haiti eliminated all traces of French in them and embraced their black heritage from Africa. The only thing they have kept from the French was creo. It also seems interesting that Haitians were the first black indecency in the world and fuelled its own economy.
