Montgomery County Delegation
Re: Bill MC 906-09
Dear Senators and Delegates’
Tam Dan Wilhelm, Legislative Chair for Montgomery County Civie Federation (MCCF), a countywide
umbrella group of citizen associations.
MCCF supports Bill MC 906-09 which allows Montgomery County to set special rates for
Gifferent classes of property. We think this would be a more direct way of increasing taxes on some
properties rather than providing credits. We note that some in the business community oppose this
bill, arguing that it would put Montgomery County at a disadvantage with neighboring Counties.
However, Delegate Carr told me that Virginia Counties have this authority and that Fairfax and
Arlington Counties currently have different rates. I would like to point out that the bill doesn’t set
different rates, but rather it just gives the County the authority to do so if they wish. Delegate Cart
also indicated that the four Councilmembers be talked with support the need to have this authority,
Sincerely
Dan Wilhelm
Legislative Chairman
