AUTO REC MUTE CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The AUTO REC MUTE circuit consists of a flip-flop
‘composed of two HAND gates (IC401), and the remaining
HAND gates, C and D.
When the AUTO REC MUTE circuit is not functioning,
pins 13, 11, 8 ,and 10 of IC401 are HIGH, LOW,
LOW, and HIGH respectively. The LOW level signal from
pin 11 causes D410, TR405, TR406, and TR111 to be
tuned off, allowing the unit for normal recording operation.
If the AUTO REC MUTE button is pressed during
recording, the level at point a momentally goes from
LOW to HIGH. (The AUTO REC MUTE switch is 0
“momentary” switch.)
This HIGH level pulse from point a momentarily
turns on TR407, which is then slowly turned off through
‘the discharging path via C405.
‘The level at point b momentarily goes from HIGH to
LOW when TR407 is momentarily turned on, but is
gradually raised to HIGH. (Figure 2)
‘The LOW level input to pin 13 of the flip-flop makes
its pin 11 HIGH, This sets pin 10 of the flip-flop at
a stable LOW state.
Since the HIGH level output from pin 11 of the flip=
flop causes D410, TR405, TR405, and TR111 to be
turned off, the output of C102 is not coupled to the

recording amplifier input, activating the muting state.
(Figure 3)
The AUTO REC MUTE circuit provides for 4 second
interval of record muting state, which is eccomplished by
HAND gates C and D.
When the AUTO REC MUTE switch is pressed, pin 1 of
‘the HAND gate goes L, while its pin 3 goes HIGH. Pin
5 of the gate goes HIGH for a period (approx 4 seconds)
in which C408 is charged up. A HIGH level input is coupled
from pin 11 to pin 6 of the HAND gates. This brings
pin 4 to LOW, causing the HAND gates, C and D, to
be set in a stable state.
The differential circuit, C408 and R423, brings pin
5 to LOW level approximately 4 seconds later. (Figure 6)
This sets pin 4 to HIGH, causing pin 2 of gate C also
to be set to HIGH. Since pin 1 is already recurned to
HIGH (because of the “momentary” nature of the switch),
pin 3. is brought down to LOW. C407 is charged at the
moment when pin 3 momentarily goes LOW. This
momentarily brings the level at e to LOW, and hence the
input to D411 is also reset to LOW by pin 10 of HAND
gate B. As a result, TR409 is turned on. This turns on
TR504 and TRSO3, which activate the pause solenoid
to place the unit in the pause mode.
