Thank you very much for your recent note to Attorney General Bob McDonnell
concerning his “exact position and understanding of the prayer words...” involved in the
secent State Police Chaplin controversy. Attorney General Bob McDonnell has asked
that I respond in his behalf.
‘Tho Office of Attorney General does not discuss legal adviee given to our clients. Our
office is restricted by law as to who we provide legal counsel and services. Therefore
any advice that may have been given to the State Police in this recent matter is privileged.
‘However, in his individual capacity Attomey General McDonnell is a vigorous supporter
of religious liberty and the right of the clergy to freely practice their faith.
Reverend Migner, again thank you for your note of support and inquiry. 1 certainly hope
you understand that this was a sincere effort to answer your questions as completely as
