January PTO Meeting Minutes

Teachers Overview:
The new strategic project process and applications will be presented at upcoming teacher meetings Mini grants are being evaluated for 2011 - 2012 school year. 5th grade announcements to be utilized for student to student communication of event - example Fox Tracks and the Community Service Club projects

I. Call to Order and Introductions II. Principals Report

A. SAC Overview
1. Curriculum update has been the focus

B. PBS Assembly is coming up in March. Parents of nominated children will be invited by the office.

III. Teachers Report

A. Teachers are getting ready for 2nd trimester conferences. B. Teachers lounge could use a good cleaning as part of the teacher appreciation efforts C. Science Seekers is starting up in February D. Intervention reading groups are going well.

IV. PTO Board Reports

A. John DeRose - Events Overview
1. Talent Show is coming up on January 26 a) Over 160 participants b) Production value will not be as high as previous years c) Selling CDs at $15 each, will need to sell 100 to break even

2. Science Fair is also on the horizon 3. Spelling Bee will be a school wide event, with required participation for all 4th and 5th graders a) parents will be notified of finalists b) decision to keep spelling bee a school wide event, as opposed to part of the national bee

B. Christine Suchor - Strategic Project and Services Overview

1. Strategic project process is coming into place. a) Christine to attend a teachers meeting with an explanation of the process and with applications. 2. Mental Health Partners seems to have backed off. Now focusing on placing administrative offices on Iris. Upcoming community meeting.

C. Shina Culberston - Treasurer

1. Mini grants funding is down from previous years. We will have between $1000 and $1200 for the 2011 - 2012 school year.

D. Julia Urquhart - PR
1. How can the PTO and the SAC work together to pursue common interests? 2. Article on boosting PTO attendance discussed

E. Elizabeth Prentiss - Secretary

1. Upcoming January District Parent Council Meeting

V. Committee Reports
A. Foothill Kids Care, Fox Finds
1. Blanket event on January 25 2. 1 hands on event per month is the goal

B. Box Tops C. SAC Update

1. Current focus 2. Sharing of enrollment trends in BVSD

D. Fox Tracks

1. Meter not working, but was repaired 2. Using space on the hall bulletin board for commuters of the week

E. Using the 5th grade announcements for effective student - student communication.
