11 August 2011 10.45 - 11.30 a.m 4 Amanah 23 pupils Mathematics Shape and Space Three dimensional shape Pupils will be tough to: Understand the volume for cubes and cuboids. At the end of the session, pupils will be able to: 1) Compare with a unit cube Cuboids Cube 2) Measure and record the dimensions of cubes and cuboids. Pupils have learnt: 3D shapes concept on Year 2 compare and contrast, generalize, apply solving problems Cooperative, confident, supportive. Laptop with LCD projector, plasticine, net, scissors, unit cubes, transparent containers, worksheet, sheet 1.

Steps

Teaching- learning activities Set induction Pupils identify the length, breadth and 1) Teacher provides (5 minutes) height of cube and cuboid. cube and cuboid to each pupils On the screen: 2) Teacher guides pupils to identify the length, breath h and height of cube and cuboid. b 3) Teacher asks pupils l the difference between the cube h and cuboid.

Lesson Pupils measure the volume of the development container by filling up the container with unit cubes. Example:

1 cuboid can be filled up with 8 small

1) Teacher prepares unit cubes and a cuboid transparent container. 2) Teacher demonstrates to pupils, by filling up the cuboid transparent container with unit cubes Teacher asks pupils how many unit cubes are needed to fill the container. 3) Teacher explains that the number of unit cubes that fill

Step 1 (15 minutes)

cubes. So, the volume of 1 cuboid is equal to sum of volume of 8 small cubes.

the cuboid container is the volume of the container. 4) Teacher repeats the demonstration by filling up the cube container. 5) Teacher prove this by identify the number of unit cubes needed to fill the length, breadth and height of the container. 6) Teacher invites pupils to the front of the class to try filling up other container. 1) Teacher forms 4 groups of pupils and 4 stations. 2) Teacher put different size of cube and cuboid container at each station. 3) Each group are given a question paper to be completed at each station. 4) The pupils completed the question paper by filling up the cube into the transparent container. 5) Teacher gives instruction to pupils to move from a station for every 2 minutes. 6) Teacher checks the Resource materials: Question paper, transparent container, unit cubes. Value: Supportive CCTS: Generalize

Step 2 (10 minutes)

Group work to complete the table in the question paper.

Sing a song

1) Teacher and pupils sing a song related to the volume of 3D shape. 2) Teacher summarizes todays lesson. - The volume of container is equal to the sum of volume of cube/cuboid that can be filled into the container.
