Unit 9: Acid and Alkali 9.1 : Properties of Acidic, Alkaline and Neutral Substances. 1.

Substances can be classified into three groups based on their properties. 2. These groups are: (a) acid (b) alkaline (c) neutral 3. Litmus paper can be used to determine whether a substance is acidic, alkaline or neutral. 4. Food can be tested with litmus paper to determine whether it is acidic, alkaline or neutral. 5. We can also determine whether food is acidic or alkaline by tasting the food.

Alkaline Bitter and Soapy Red > Blue Blue = blue Neutral Sweet, salty, tasteless Red = Red Blue = Blue Syrup, Salt water, Cooking oil, Water, Sugar, Rice, Soy sauce, Mineral water.
