Interior diversification of the system will be achieved through portable plug-in cells outfitted with the appropriate fixtures for a given program. (More flexible configurations can also be achieved with loose chairs and tables.) Example plug-ins are listed here with some sketches. Since each program plugin has a fixed dimension, insertion of the plug-in will fix a cell or series of cells into a given position, thereby affecting the neighboring cells. This will affect the possible use of adjacent cells as well as dictate that program plug-ins may not be placed in adjacent cells, ensuring that within any given module at least half of the cells will remain open for free public use. Modules will contain 5-6 cells each and must be sponsored by the city, property owner (in the case of a vacancy), or existing business owner holding rights to the sidewalk area adjacent to their property. Businesses can band together to sponsor multiple modules that can be linked to create larger arrays of cells with a larger variety of possible program. Successful locations will grow and aggregate while others may fail to catch on and be taken down.
