Wireless

Portable & Flexible Reasonable price Secureable

As the number of computers using the network increases, the data transfer rate to each computer will decrease accordingly. As standards change, it may be necessary to replace wireless cards and/or access points. Lower wireless bandwidth means some applications such as video streaming will be more effective on a wired LAN. Security is more difficult to guarantee and requires configuration. Devices will only operate at a limited distance from an access point, with the distance determined by the standard used and buildings and other obstacles between the access point and the user

Wired

Faster Reliable Secure

When using wired network, There will be more chances that the wire will become more messy and complicated. This also can lead to short circuit. There also will be problem for a host that need the connection but did not have the connection media such as serial line to connect them with the network.

Wireless Wireless networking devices from enable you to use your computer, laptop or games console anywhere in the house and be on the network or get access to the Internet. Even if you have a large house, wireless signal will generally go through walls and ceilings**. If you need to extended distances you can use access points to boost the wireless signal.

a wired LAN. Cost Effective Buying and installing structured Ethernet networking cables into your home can be a costly exercise. Setting up a basic wireless home network can cost significantly less. Neat & Safe If you choose to set-up a wireless home network you do not need to run cables across your house, which can create trip hazards across rooms, hallways and stairs. Also choosing to set-up a wireless home network means that you do not need to run cables underneath carpets or drill holes through walls or ceilings to pass cables through. Security is more difficult to guarantee and requires configuration. Devices will only operate at a limited distance from an access point, with the distance determined by the standard used and buildings and other obstacles between the access point and the user.

Wired

Faster Wired connections can reach networking speeds of up to 1000 Mbps with NETGEAR's Gigabit Ethernet networking equipment, necessary for bandwidth hungry users such as avid gamers, graphic designers or users downloading large media files. However, for most users 54 or 108 Mbps networking speeds are more than sufficient for everyday networking activities such as: Emailing, surfing the web, downloading files, music and video, accessing corporate information and playing console games. Reliable Physical, fixed wired connections are not prone to interference and fluctuations in available bandwidth, which can affect some wireless networking connections. Secure If you decide to build a wired home network, you don't have to worry about your networking signal travelling through the air and being interrupted by eavesdroppers (snoopers), which can happen if you don't protect your wireless network. There are very effective security measures (encryption) for wireless networks - you just need to remember to add passwords to your wireless network settings to stop neighbours from nicking your

c. What is the wired equivalent to the antenna that is located at station 4? y Ethernet Cable d. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the antenna devices?

Device Omnidirectional Antenna

Advantage Omnidirectional antenna can be used to link multiple directional antenna in outdoor point-tomultipoint communication systems including cellular phone connections and TV broadcasts. The only 3 dimensional omnidirectional antenna is the unity gain isotropic antenna, a theoretical construct derived from actual antenna radiation patterns and used as a reference for specifying antenna gain and radio system effective radiated power.

Disadvantage Signal strength is uniform with omnidirectional antennas, while bidirectional and unidirectional ones have the ability to strengthen signals while eliminating unwanted ones.

Bidirectional antenna

Improve signal reception A highly directional antenna

improves the signal reception because it is pointed at the origin of the signal. Ignore noise Highly directional antennas also "ignore" signals coming from places other than the one they are directed to, which cuts down the interference with a chosen signal. Ability to change the focus Another advantage these antennas offer is the ability to change the focus of the receiver to another direction.
