    India has seen development in higher education and human resource development over the past decade. Public spending on education has increased from 9.7% of total spending in 2004-2005 to 10.6% in 2009-2010. The government aims to make India a global hub of knowledge by establishing benchmark universities at the central and state levels. There are currently 65 technical institutions across the country focused on areas such as engineering, management, and applied arts, including 15 Indian Institutes of Technology, 20 National Institutes of Technology, and 7 Indian Institutes of Management.

Currently there are 65 such institutions which includes 15 Indian institutes of technology (IITS) , 20 national institutes of technology (NITS) 7 Indian institutes of managements (IIMS) and 6 insitutes of science , education and research institutions.
