White Tail Deer are crepuscular meaning they are most active at dawn and night.

When the deer are alarmed their tails erect as a warning to other deer that danger is near. The underside of the tail is white, hence the name. These deer are small and agile. Mule Deer are very similar to the White Tail Deer, one of the ways you can tell them apart is by their ears. Mule Deer have larger ears than White Tail. They also have smaller tails. Mule Deer are stocky animals with an odd gait when alarmed. They jump on all four feet at once. They can reach up to 45 MPH for short distances. Moose are very big. Reaching up to 1600 pounds, they can really scare you! Only the bulls have antlers. The average lifespan of a moose is only 5 or 6 years, however they can live to be 20. Winter tick infestation can decrease the moose population by as much as 50%. Caribou look similar to small elk. These magnificent creatures are also referred to as reindeer. They can sleep in the water! They are also color blind. Caribou have two circulatory systems for their legs. The temperature of their legs is sometimes 50% less than the rest of their body! Elk are generally a light tan color with a light patch on their bums. Elk have two canine teeth called ivories that are usually taken from a killed elk as a trophy from the hunt. Only male elk have antlers and a pair of them can weigh up to 40 pounds! Wolves have a very close pack life. They take down kills together and are rarely seen very far from their pack. There is a strict pack hierarchy with an alpha male and female who are usually the only ones who breed. All the wolves help raise the pups. A wolf can consume up to 20 pounds of meat in one sitting when they are hungry!
