2011 PARACYCLING CIRCUIT RACE & TIME TRIAL SERIES REGULATIONS

Objectives of the Paracycling Series


a) b) c) To provide a calendar of competitive opportunities for cyclists with a disability. To identify riders capable of riding for the British Cycling Paralympic squad. To provide a route into competitive cycling for cyclists with a disability.

Regulations
1. Entry criteria Events shall be open to those with a disability only. A British Cycling race licence is not required to enter the series although riders are advised to take out British Cycling membership. A one day British Cycling membership fee will be payable in addition to the entry fee paid by any participant by any BC non member. These events shall be open to riders under 16 years of age, subject to dispensation as given by the British Cycling National Disability Events Officer at British Cycling Headquarters. For Time Trials all entrants shall be required to be a member of a club or organisation affiliated to a CTT club. Entry fees for Tandem pilots shall be free. Note- To be eligible to compete in a BC National Championship, a rider must hold a valid, current UCI recognised competition licence and be a British national. Annual competition licence fees for those with a disability as recognised for sporting purposes by British Cycling (except for those in the lower LC and CP disability classifications) are half price. For the Time Trial Championship, separate regulations apply. Entry forms can be downloaded from the British Cycling website here. For entry closing dates refer to event details in British Cycling and Cycling Time Trials Calendars as appropriate 2. Classification Riders without a para-cycling perminant UCI disability classification will be classified by British Cycling in consultation with the rider concerned. To be eligible to score series points, a rider must meet the UCIs para-cycling eligibility criteria. Full details of these are available on the UCI website www.uci.ch. Cyclists with a disability that is not recognised by the UCI (e.g. those with learning disabilities) will also be welcome to be part in events within this competition, subject to the prior approval of British Cycling which will allocate the appropriate factor for such riders.

4. Racing Format The races will be held in traffic free circuits providing a safe racing environment. The start order and allowances will be determined basis of each riders functional classification (see section 5. Factors below). Closed Road Circuit Races will be approximately 60 minutes in duration There shall be a separate event for Handcyclists. The minimum number of entries required by the closing date for a Handcycling or other Paracycling Circuit Race Event to take place shall be six. 5. Factors To allow riders with a diverse range of impairments to compete with each other, a system will be used whereby a greater allowance is given to those with those with the greater impairment . In bunch races this allowance will normally be based on requiring those with the greater impairment to ride less laps within the given time allotted to the event. The factors to be used have been obtained from the results from the 2010 UCI World Para-Cycling Time Trial Championships. This index is calculated from the average speed of the top three placed riders in each classification in these Championships 6. Series Points Points will be awarded for the first six placed handcyclist, and the top six placed paracyclists, in each round as follows: 30, 25, 21, 17, 14, 12 A riders top ten results will count towards their overall series standings. At the end of the series the rider with the most points overall shall be the series champion.

7. Equipment Regulations As the series hopes to attract a number of riders starting out in para-cycling races, those wishing to race but do not have a machine that conforms to UCI regulations shall be allowed to participate providing their machine is safe for them to ride, does not give them an unfair advantage over other riders and will not cause a hazard to themselves or other riders. The decision of if the machine fits this criteria shall be made by British Cycling and shall be final. 8.
