education is critically important to the health and economic vitality of North Las Vegas, and plays a significant role in a family's choice of where to live; and citizens across North Las Vegas agree that improving the quality of education in North Las Vegas particularly for neediest children, and expanding access to highly effective schools should be an issue of importance to our city's leaders; and North Las Vegas recognizes the critical role that an effective and accountable system of education plays in preparing all children in North Las Vegas to be successful and productive citizens; and North Las Vegas has a multitude of high-quality public schools, public charter schools, and nonpublic schools, as well as many high-quality teaching professionals who are committed to educating children; and research in North Las Vegas and across our nation demonstrates conclusively that providing children with multiple schooling options improves academic performance and revitalizes cities.

NOW, THEREFORE, WE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF lYORTH LAS VEGAS, do hereby proclaim January 23-29, 2012 as: "SCHOOL CHOICE WEEK" in North Las Vegas, and call upon our citizens to recognize and participate in its observance. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, we have set our hand and caused the Seal of the City of North Las Vegas to be affixed this 3rd day of January 2012.
