SR IIT SPARK & IC
Time : 3 ho urs INSTRUCTIONS
A.
General: 1. This booklet is your Question Paper containing 57 questions. The booklet has 16 pages. 2. The question paper CODE is printed on the right hand top corner of this booklet. 3. Blank papers, clipboards, log tables, slide rules, calculators, cellular phones, pagers, and electronic gadgets in any form are not allowed to be carried inside the examination hall. 4. The answer sheet, a machinereadable Objective Response Sheet (ORS), is provided separately. 5. DO NOT TAMPER WITH / MUTILATE THE ORS OR THE BOOKLET. Filling the ORS 6. On the lower part of the ORS, write in ink, your name in box L1, your Registration No. in box L2 and Name of the Centre in box L3. Do not write these anywhere else. 7. Write your Registration No. in ink, in the box L4 provided in the lower part of the ORS and darken the appropriate bubble UNDER each digit of your Registration No. with a good quality HB pencil. 8. The ORS has a CODE printed on its lower and upper parts. 9. Make sure the CODE on the ORS is the same as that on this booklet and put your signature in ink in box L5 on the ORS affirming that you have verified this. 10. IF THE CODES DO NOT MATCH, ASK FOR A CHANGE OF THE BOOKLET. Question paper format: 11. The question paper consists of 3 parts (Part I: Chemistry, Part II: Mathematics, Part III: Physics). Each part has 4 sections. 12. Section I contains 4 multiple choice questions. Each question has 4 choices (A), (B), (C) and (D), out of which only one is correct.

Please read the instructions carefully. You are allotted 5 minutes specifically for this purpose.
13.

B.

D.

C.

Section II contains 5 multiple correct answer type questions. Each questions has 4 choices (A), (B), (C) and (D), out of which one or more answers are correct. 14. Section III contains 2 questions. Each question has four statements (A, B, C and D) given in column I and five statements (p, q, r, s and t) in column II. Any given statement in column I can have correct matching with one or more statements(s) given in column II. For example, if for a given question, statement B matches with the statements given in q and r, then for that particular question, against statement B, darken the bubbles corresponding to q and r in the ORS. 15. Section IV contains 8 questions. The answer to each of the questions is a single-digit integer, ranging from 0 to 9. The answer will have to be approximately bubbled in the ORS as per the instructions given at the beginning of the section. Marking Scheme: 16. For each question in Section I, you will be awarded 3 marks if you have darkened only the bubble corresponding to the correct answer and zero mark if no bubble is darkened. In case of bubbling of incorrect answer, minus one (1) mark will be awarded. 17. For each question in Section II, you will be awarded 4 marks if you have darkened all the bubble(s) corresponding to the correct choice(s) for the answer, and zero mark if no bubble is darkened. In all other cases, minus one (-1) mark will be awarded. 18. For each question in Section III, you will be awarded 2 marks for each row in which you have darkened the bubble(s) corresponding to the correct answer. Thus, each question in this section carries a maximum of 8 marks. There is no negative marking for incorrect answer(s) for this section. 19. For each questions in Section IV, you will be awarded 4 marks if you darken the bubble corresponding to the correct answer, and zero mark if no bubble is darkened. In all other cases, minus one (1) mark will be awarded.

Two long vertical coaxial cylinders have a viscous liquid between them. Their radii are R 1 and R2. The angular velocities of the cylinders are and are in same direction. Assume stream line motion for the liquid layers. Match Column-I with Column-II.

Column-I a) b) c) d) Torque on liquid surface about axis Viscous force on liquid surface Density of streamlines Pressure inside the liquid p ) q ) r) s) t)

Column-I Increases from R1 to R2 Zero every where Non zero constant Decreases from R1 to R2 First increases and then decreases with radial distance

This section contains 8 questions. The answer to each of the questions is a single digit integer, ranging from 0 to 9. The appropriate bubbles below the respective question numbers in the ORS have to be darkened. For example, if the correct answers to questions numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (say) are 2, 1, 4, 2 and 3, respectively then the correct darkening of bubbles will look like the following.

A liquid of density given by = 0 ( 1 + y ) is stored in a container, where y is the distance from the 2 1 top of the liquid surface. = m . . 0 is the density of the liquid at the top level. A very small 3 hole is made at the bottom of the container. Find the velocity of efflux ( in m/s) when the liquid height is 1 m ( Assume streamline flow) Space for rough use

Heat is generated uniformly per unit volume inside a spherical volume of radius 1m at rate of 20 1 W / m3 . The thermal conductivity of the spherical volume in W / mK . If the outer surface 6 temperature of the sphere is 200C. If the temperature of the centre of the sphere is x 10 ( in degree centigrade), find x . In a nuclear reactor an element X decays to a radio active element Y at a constant rate 1015 atoms per sec. Each decay releases 100 MeV energy. Half life of Y equals T and decays to a stable product Z. Each decay of Y releases 50 MeV. All energy released inside the reactor is used to produce electricity at an efficiency of 25%. Calculate the electrical power in kw generated in the reactor in steady state. The radius of curvature of each surface of an equi convex lens is R = 42cm . Refractive index of the glass = 1.25 . If the final image forms after four internal reflections inside the lens ( for paraxial incident beam ) calculate the distance of the image from the lens. A parallel beam of light falls normally on the first face of a prism of small angle. At the second face it is partly refracted and partly reflected, the reflected beam striking the first face again and emerging from it in a direction making and angle 60301 with the reversed direction of the incident beam. The refracted beam is found to have undergone a deviation of 10151 from the original direction. Find the angle of prism in degrees.

If the phase difference between current and alternating voltage applied to the solenoid with frequency f = 100 Hz. is , find x ( Take 2 = 10 ). x
A long single layer solenoid tightly wound of wire with resistivity = A spring mass system is kept on a horizontal rough surface having coefficient of friction = 0.4. The spring is connected to the vertical wall. The spring is extended by 27 cm to the right and then it is released. The total distance traveled by the block before it comes to permanent rest is x 10 in cm find x k = 100 N/m m = 1kg
