Section 1 Part 1 Modern Era


The use of productivity, or measure of work in certain time has been increased. Human resources is a source of people that can be hired to work machines. The first industry to be moved into factories was textiles, woven cloth. Before textile factories, work was carried out by the cottage industry, industry where family workers work at home Workers formed groups called unions to bargain for rights and needs

If factory owners refuse demands of unions, they went on strikes, not working until conditions are met. Later, using a system called imperialism, European countries claimed colonies in Asia and Africa. To protect colonies countries built alliances, trusted groups. Communism was introduced, it is the believe everyone gets same privileges even if it means none. Hitler began the holocaust in World War II, killing of 12 million people by Hitler. Holocaust is a type of genocide massive murder of many lives because of race, culture, ethnicity, and politics.

Section 2 Part 1 A Continent Divided


The global competition between the US vs. soviet union is the Cold War. In Cold War, both sides have nuclear weapons, using atoms for high reactions. Many European nations under an alliance believed in deterrence where they discourage attacks. Soviet union made a satellite nation where many countries depended on Soviet Union.

June 1948 blockaded Berlin, closed off water and land traffic hoping to get rid of the US, UK, and France. US and UK responded to the blockade with airlift, or system of supply carrying in the air. To end the Cold War, Soviets new leader Mikhail Gorbachev pronounced glasnost, openness to criticizing governments. Under perestroika, restructuring, government was loosened up. Gorbachev made the country in capitalism, where most business is privately owned, and competition to create products at cheaper prices.

After soviet union split, The common market became a European Union a joint system of a little more than 14 European countries. The European Union replaced their national currencies with the Euro, which helped better impact relations between countries in Europe.
