Section 1 Part 1 India


India, and 6 other countries make up the Indian subcontinent. A subcontinent is a large landmass that is part of a continent but distinct from it. India is warm and hot most of the year. It has heavy, steady, seasonal winds that blow from June to September called monsoons. When India had a famine, leaders took action by creating attention using the green revolution. Green revolution is the process of using modern techniques and science to grow more plants. Today, farmers raise jute, a sturdy plant fiber for making rope and burlap bags. Most of Indias products come from the cottage industry, home or village based industry.

Indian government is ruled by a prime minister, it has a parliament is a representative democracy Water and land are polluted by burning coal, industrial wastes, and pesticides, chemicals used to kill crop destroying insects. Hinduism in India was organized by the caste system. People of same caste can only marry, and your caste is passed down from generations. Laws later help forbid it. Another thing in Hinduism was the belief in reincarnation. Reincarnation is when the soul lives new lives until perfection

Section 2 Other Countries of South Asia


Bangladesh is affected a lot by monsoons. A hurricane like storm called a cyclone may come after a heavy storm. In Bhutan the population is mainly Buddhist. The praying center in Buddhism is called a dzong.
