The Surrealism movement was influenced by the ideas of Freud.

t grew out of the Dadaism movement in many respects
Many artist were influenced by major events such as World War
and the Great Depression
Freud initiated the psychoanalytic critique of surrealism that stated
that he was more interested in the surrealist conscious rather than the
unconscious. in this view the surrealist may have created great works
but they were products of the conscious, not the unconscious mind.
the unconscious cannot express itself automatically, but can only
uncovered through the analysis of resistance and transference in the
psychoanalytic process.
Freudian Criticism
Drawing heavily on theories adapted from Sigmund Freud, Surrealists saw
the unconscious as the source of the imagination.

This movement continues to flourish today. Continued thought processes and

investigations into the mind have produced some of the best art ever seen.
