NWU Nagraadse Beursskema 2012

Inleiding Die doel van die NWU se nagraadse beursskema is om finansile ondersteuning aan belowende nagraadse studente te verleen wat enersyds nie tersire nagraadse studie kan bekostig nie en andersyds om erkenning te verleen aan studente wat op akademiese gebied presteer. Die NWU nagraadse beursskema is in lyn met die strategiese doelwitte van die Universiteit soos in die Institusionele Plan uiteengesit. Algemene rels Die volgende belangrike voorwaardes geld vir alle nagraadse beurse: Dit is slegs beskikbaar aan nagraadse studente wat vir n eerste, voorgeskrewe nagraadse kursuseenheid registreer: Honneurs, meesters en doktoraal. Aansoek om die beurs (herhaling van die beurs ingesluit) moet jaarliks op die voorgeskrewe aansoekvorm gedoen word voor of op 15 Desember van die vorige jaar vir die voorgenome studiejaar. Beurse ontvang van Statutre Rade, bv. NRF en ander buite instansies, word vir honneursstudente in aanmerking geneem wanneer die maksimum beurswaarde bepaal word. Die beursbedrag, met rente, is terugbetaalbaar indien n student enige van die voorwaardes nie nakom nie, studies staak of nie die kursus binne die voorgeskrewe tydperk voltooi nie. NWU-HONNEURSBEURS
R12 000 VIR NIESKAARS VAARDIGHEIDSKURSUSSE Aansoekers moet n minimum gemiddeld van 70% in die finalejaarmodules van die voorafgaande graadkursus behaal het. Geen punte word afgerond nie. Die beurs geld slegs vir een (1) jaar en studente moet as VOLTYDSE honneursstudente geregistreer wees. Deeltydse studente en werkende studente (omskryf as studente wat vir n werkgewer werk en n salaris verdien) kwalifiseer dus nie vir honneursbeurse nie. NIE-SKAARS KURSUSSE: Fakulteite Lettere en Wysbegeerte, Opvoedingswetenskappe, Teologie en Ekonomiese en Bestuurswetenskappe, waar die rigtings nie gespesifiseer is nie BA, BEd, BTh, BCom Arbeidsverhoudinge, BCom Bedryfsielkunde en BCom Menslike Hulpbronbestuur. R14 000 VIR SKAARS VAARDIGHEIDSKURSUSSE (BCom, BSc met BA Toerisme as uitsondering) Aansoekers moet n minimum gemiddeld van 65% vir alle vakke/modules in die finale jaar van die voorafgaande graadkursus behaal het. Die beurs geld slegs vir een (1) jaar en studente moet as VOLTYDSE honneursstudente geregistreer wees. Sudente wat voltyds vir n werkgewer werk en n salaris verdien, word as deeltydse studente beskou. Statistiek Toerisme (BA) Wiskundige Wetenskappe

Honneursstudente mag beurse uit meer as een bron ontvang. Indien n student beurse uit ander bronne ontvang, sal dit uit universiteitsfondse aangevul word tot die maksimum van R40 000 onderhewig aan die beursbedrae soos bo gespesifiseer. Die Universiteit behou die reg voor om beurse uit universiteitsfondse te kanselleer indien die perk van R40 000 oorskry word. Honneursbeurse is slegs beskikbaar vir voltydse studente, m.a.w. waar studie die hoofaktiwiteit is. Deeltydse studente en werkende studente (omskryf as studente wat vir n werkgewer werk en n salaris verdien) kwalifiseer dus nie vir honneursbeurse nie.

NWU-MAGISTERBEURS
Die totale beurswaarde beloop R30 600 waarvan R15 300 in die eerste jaar en R15 300 in die tweede jaar toegeken word. Die student moet jaarliks aansoek doen vir die oorblywende herhalingsbeurs. n Skriftelike vorderingsverslag van die studieleier vir elke voltooide studiejaar moet saam met die aansoekvorm vir die herhalingsbeurs ingehandig word vir goedkeuring deur die Institusionele Departement Navorsingsondersteuning, alvorens die hernuwingsbeurs uitbetaal word. In die geval waar n student in een jaar die meestersgraad voltooi en die daaropvolgende jaar direk met doktorale studies aangaan, word R15 300 na die eerste jaar van die doktorale studies oorgedra. Indien die student nie inskryf vir doktorale studies nie, is die beurswaarde slegs R15 300. Deeltydse studente en werkende studente (omskryf as studente wat voltyds vir n werkgewer werk en n salaris verdien) mag aansoek doen vir n 50% toekenning van die NWU nagraadse beurs. Meestersgraadstudente mag beurse uit meer as een bron ontvang en daar is geen perk op die beursbedrag nie. Om te kwalifiseer moet n student vir die voorafgaande honneursgraad n minimum gemiddeld van 60% vir alle vakke/modules behaal het. Geen punte word afgerond nie. Hierdie beurshouers het n grasietydperk van drie (3) jaar om die Magisterstudies te voltooi. Studente wat n vierjarige B-graad in BIng, BPharm en BArt et Scien in Stads- en Streekbeplanning verwerf het, kwalifiseer ook vir die magisterbeurs, maar moet n gemiddeld van 60% in die voorafgaande finale jaar behaal het.

NWU DOKTORALE BEURS

Die totale beurswaarde is R55 500 asook n addisionele R15 300 (indien die student n magisterbeurshouer was, die meestersgraad in een jaar voltooi het en die daaropvolgende jaar direk met doktorale studies aangaan). Die toekenning per jaar is R18 500 vir n maksimum van drie (3) jaar. Die student moet jaarliks aansoek doen vir die oorblywende herhalingsbeurs. n Skriftelike vorderingsverslag van die studieleier vir elke voltooide studiejaar, moet saam met die aansoekvorm vir die herhalingsbeurs ingehandig word vir kennisname deur die Institusionele Departement Navorsingsondersteuning, alvorens die hernuwingsbeurs uitbetaal word. Deeltydse studente en werkende studente (omskryf as studente wat voltyds vir n werkgewer werk en n salaris verdien) mag aansoek doen vir n 50% toekenning van die NWU nagraadse beurs. Doktorsgraadstudente mag beurse uit meer as een bron ontvang en daar is geen perk op die beursbedrag nie. Om te kwalifiseer moet n student vir die voorafgaande meestersgraad n minimum gemiddeld van 60% vir alle vakke/modules behaal het. Geen punte word afgerond nie. Die beurshouer het n grasietydperk van vyf (5) jaar om sy/haar doktorale studies te voltooi.

NAGRAADSE AKADEMIESE MERIETEBEURSE

Nagraadse akademiese merietebeurse is aanvullend tot alle nagraadse beurse en word aan alle nagraadse studente, wat in die finale voorafgaande studiejaar n gemiddelde persentasie van 75% of hor behaal het, toegeken mits die voorgeskrewe kursuseenhede geneem is en die voorafgaande graad binne die voorgeskrewe tydsduur en volgens voorgeskrewe vereistes voltooi is. Geen punt word afgerond nie. Akademiese meriete vir voltydse studente word jaarliks outomaties bereken en toegeken. Meriete word eenmalig in die eerste jaar per nagraadse kursus toegeken. NOTA: Deeltydse studente en studente vanaf ander universiteite moet vir die merietebeurs op die voorgeskrewe vorm aansoek doen. Studente vanaf ander universiteite moet gewaarmerkte akademiese rekords van die betrokke universiteit aanheg. Akademiese meriete word nie outomaties aan di studente toegeken nie. NWU Postgraduate Bursary Scheme 2012

Introduction The NWU postgraduate bursary scheme aims to provide financial support to promising postgraduate students who cannot afford tertiary education and to give recognition to students who perform well academically. The NWU postgraduate bursary scheme is in line with the strategic objectives of the University as explained in the Institutional Plan. General rules The following important conditions apply to all postgraduate bursaries: It is available only to postgraduate students who register for a first, prescribed postgraduate course unit: Honours, masters and Doctoral. Application for the bursary (also renewal of the bursary) must be done on the prescribed application form on or before 15 December of the year preceding the intended study. Bursaries from statutory councils such as the NRF and other outside institutions to honours students are taken into consideration when the maximum bursary amount is determined. The bursary amount, with interest, is repayable if a student fails to comply with any of the conditions, terminates his/her studies or does not complete the course within the prescribed period. NWU HONOURS BURSARY

R12 000 FOR NON-SCARCE SKILLS COURSES Applicants must have achieved an average of at least 70% the final year modules of the preceding degree. The bursary is valid for one (1) year only and students must be registered as FULL-TIME honours students. Full-time employed students earning a salary are considered as part-time students. NON-SCARCE COURSES: Faculties of Arts, Education Sciences, Theology and Economics and Management Sciences, fields not specified BA, BEd, BTh, BCom Industrial Psycology, BCom Labour Relations and BCom Human Resource Management.

R14 000 FOR SCARCE SKILLS COURSES (BCom and BSc with BA Tourism) Applicants must have achieved an average of at least 65% for all subjects/modules in the final year of the preceding degree. No marks will be rounded off. The bursary is valid for one (1) year only and students must be registered as FULL-TIME honours students. Fulltime employed students earning a salary are considered part-time students. Honours students are allowed to receive bursaries from one or more sources. If a student receives a bursary from another sponsor, the student may apply for top-up funding from university funds to a maximum of R40 000, but taking into consideration the maximum amount allowed as specified above. The University reserves the right to cancel bursaries from university funds if the amount of R30 000 is exceeded. Honours bursaries are only for full-time students, in other words, where study is the main activity. Part-time students and working students (defined as students who are full time employed and earning a salary) do not qualify for a honours bursary.

NWU MASTERS BURSARY

The total bursary value is R30 600 of which R15 300 will be paid in the first year and R15 300 in the second year. A written progress report from the supervisor must be submitted with the renewal application after the first year of study, subjected to permission from the Institusional Department of Research Support in order for the renewal bursary to be paid to the student. The student must apply annually for the remainder of the renewal bursary. If the masters degree is completed in one year the bursary amount remains R15 300. If a masters student, after completing the degree, enrolls for doctoral studies, R15 300 will be carried over to the first year of doctoral studies. If the student does not enroll for doctoral studies the bursary value is only R15 300. Part-time students and working students (defined as students who are full time employed and earning a salary) may apply for a 50% allocation of the NWU postgraduate bursary. Doctoral students are allowed to receive bursaries from one or more sources, and there are no limitations on the amounts of the bursaries. To qualify, a student must have achieved an average of at least 60% for all subjects/modules during the preceding honours degree. No marks will be rounded off. These bursary holders have a grace period of three (3) years to complete their masters studies. Students who have obtained a four-year B degree in, for example, BIng, BPharm or BArt et Scien in Town and Regional planning also qualify for the masters bursary but must have achieved an average of 60% for all subjects/modules in the final year of the preceding degree.

NWU DOCTORAL BURSARY

The total bursary value is R55 500 plus an additional R15 300 (if the student received a NWU masters bursary and completed the degree in one year). The bursary will be paid over three (3) years at R18 500 per annum.The student must apply annualy for the remainder of the renewal bursary and a written progress report from the study leader, for each year completed, must be submitted with the renewal application subject to permission from the Institutional Department of Research Support in order for the renewal bursary to be paid to the student. Part-time students and working students (defined as students that are full time employed and earning a salary) may apply for a 50% allocation of the NWU postgraduate bursary. Doctoral students are allowed to receive bursaries from one or more sources, and there are no limitations on the amounts of the bursaries. To qualify for the bursary, the student must have achieved an average of at least 60% during the preceding masters degree. No marks will be rounded of. The bursary holder has a grace period of five (5) years to complete the doctoral study.

POSTGRADUATE ACADEMIC MERIT BURSARIES

Postgraduate academic bursaries are supplementary to all other postgraduate bursaries and are awarded to postgraduate students who achieved an average of at least 75% for all subjects/modules in the final year of the preceding degree provided that the prescribed course units were taken and the preceding degree was completed within the prescribed period and according to prescribed conditions. No marks will be rounded off. Academic merit bursaries for FULL-TIME students are automatically calculated and awarded each year. The merit bursary will be awarded only once in the first year as per postgraduate course. NOTE: Part-time students and students from another university must apply for the merit bursary on the prescribed form. Postgraduate students from another university must attach certified academic records of the relevant university. Academic merit bursaries are not awarded automatically to these students.
