raising
WARNING: Do not atart engine with vehicle on a jack.
Vehicles equipped with Trac-Lok axles can roll the vehi.
le off the jack even with one wheel off the ground.
2. Block tire dlagonally opposite tire to be changed to
prevent forward and backward vehicle movement.
3, Pry off wheel cover, if equipped, using flat end of
lug wrench starting at edge opposite tire valve.
4, Loosen wheel nuts one-half turn counterelockwi
5. Place the jack under the spring pivot near the wheel to
changed. Align the jack withthe axe so that the saddle of
the jack is beneath the spring eye pivot end. Postion lug
‘wrench on jack to use as a handle.
mi
WARNING: Do not use 2 block under the jack that
prevents it from rising at least 3 inches before contac-

F Jack
6, Raise vehicle by tuming ug wrench/jack handle clockwise
Until fre clears the ground,
NOTE: When changing a flat tre, you must rise the vahiole
high enough to permit instalation of the spare tre, which
when inflated wil have & higher diameter
WARNING: Do not work under vehicle without a jack
stand supporting it. The jack is for changing wheets on-
1y. Check the vehicle stability after the vehicle Is raised.
Passengers should not remain in vehicle.
7, Remove wheel nuts and wheel
8, Position spare wheeliti on vehicle and install wheel
nuts with cone-shaped end toward wheel. Tighten
huts clockwise until uniformly snug, using @ criss:

Emergency Starting Procedures
CAUTION: Jeep vehicles should not be started by
‘pushing or towing. In the event of battery failure, use
jumper cables for starting a vehicle with a weak or run-
down battery. In the event the engine turns over but
Goesn't start during pushing or towing, raw fue! could
‘enter the catalytic converter. Once the engine is started,
the raw fuel could cause the catalytic converter to
overheat and rupture.
Jump Starting
WARNING: Do got attempt to charge or use # booster
(on a battery with frozen electrolyte. The frozen battery
may explode.
‘The booster battery must be a 12-volt type end negatively
[grounded like the one In your vehicle. You should check the
‘ther vahicle's owner's manual tobe sure. Voltage sources ex-
‘ceeding 16-volts de must not be usad or damage tothe battery,
Sartor motor or alternator could result.
ua
WARNING: Jump starting can be dangerous. To avold
personal injury or damage to electrical components in
Your vehicle, the following erocedure shouldbe fllow-
carefully.
Procedure
1, Place automatic transmission in Neutral or Park
and set parking brake fully.

(including cigarettes, cigars and pipes). The battory produces
hydrogen gas, which is flammable, explosive, and present
within the Dartery at al times. Do not allow battery aotd to
‘contact eyes, skin, fabrics or painted surfaces. Serious per-
‘sonal injuty or property damage could result. Flush any con-
tected area with water immediately and thoroughly Becareful
when using metal tools and equipment near the Battery. Con-
tact between tie postive terminal or metal in contact with i)
‘andany other metal on the vehicle could cause an injurious or
damaging short circult. Always keep batteries and battery
‘0d out ofthe reach of children
Jumper Cable Arrangement'5, Raise vent caps from discharged battery with a
flat, nonmetal tool and remove the caps.
6. Cheek fluid level, If low, fluld must be brought to
proper level before jump starting is attempted.
7. Check fluid condition. If slushy or frozen, do not
‘attempt jump starting. The battery could rupture or
‘explode. Battery must be brought up to 40°F (4.4°C)
before it can be safely jump-started or charged.
8. Install vent caps on discharged battery vent wells.
‘A relief valve In the cap prevents pressure buildup.
8, Connact a jumper cable between the positive posts
of the two batteries. The positive post may be iden-
tified by a “++” sign on the post and the letters
“POS” embossed on the battery cover adjacent to
the battery post.
410. Connect one end of the other jumper cable to the
‘egative terminal of the battery in the other vehicle.
‘The negative terminal has “NEG” embossed adja-
ccent to the terminal. Do not connect the other end
Of the jumper cablo to the negative terminal of the
discharged battery. Connect to a bolt or nut on the
engine. Do not connect the jumper to the carbur
tor, air cleaner or fuel line, Keep the cables clear of
belts and pulleys.
11, Start the engine in the vehicle providing the jump
